Scenic Bvwavs at Orient Causewav Proiect The Commission is waiting for cost data on a similar
project on the South Fork. According to DOT officials, it cost $30 million to put one
transmissIOn line underground for 6 miles. The Commission agreed that it would not be fiscally
prudent to spend $10,000 on a scoping project if the overall project is too expensive to undertake.
The scoping project will be divided into two parts-a feasibility study to identify the parameters
of costs of undergrounding 4 cables. The cables include electric transmission, and distribution,
Verizon, and Cablevision. Mr. Wickham suggested that the Department of Homeland Defense
may have funding available for the project. Mr. Richter and Mr. Brashich will revise the notice
of proposal to reflect the separation ofthe parts of the scoping and feasibility study. Ms. Thiele
suggested that the Commission contact Verizon to see if they plan to upgrade the phone lines to
cable to see if they want to lead the project. Mr. Richter stated that LIP A will be responsible for
trenching
DOT Discharge Basin in Cutchogue Village Mr. Richter and the DOT are working to improve
the discharge basin located in Cutchogue Village.
CVS Proiect in Mattituck: Road layout and entry and exit layouts have been finalized in the CVS
Project in Mattituck. Sigsbee and Marlene A venue will be used for access. Trucks will use
Marlene avenue, making a V-turn by backing up into the subdivision, and then pulling back out
into Marlene facing North for exit onto SR25.
Scenic Bvwavs Signage The Town can put up road signs delineating the sceni" byway. The
Commission discussed who they can get to design a logo. The Commission also discussed
whether it would be a good idea to clutter the roadway with more signs.
Five Towns Rural Transit Committee Members of the Five Towns Rural Transit Committee
spoke before the Southold Town Board. The 5TRT Committee is meeting with Cape Cod
officials to learn from their regional transit authority.
New Busllless Mr. Wickham suggested that the Transportation Commission needs to be prepared
to consider the transportation implications of the Hamlet Studies. Mr. Wickham also asked if
improvement could be made to the light at Cox Lane in Cutchogue. Currently, the westbound
lighting is midleading drivers trying to turn left off of CR48 onto southbound Cox Lane. The
westbound light appears to be a left turn lane light. Mr. Richter stated that he will check to see if
the DOT can put a baffle on the light so that drivers will not see the light when they are in the
turn lane. The light is centered in the land for distance viewing. Mr. Richter stated that he would
check with the DOT to see what can be done to improve the safety of the intersection.
The next meeting will be March 21" at lOam at SoutholfTown Hall
