SEEDS Update: A committee is being created with two people from each town. There will be a priority list of
immediate projects and long term projects. The Towns are still signing the Memorandum of Understanding.
Orient Causeway Proiect Status Rc:port: We are still waiting for a report.
Town Orientation/lntell'retive Sienllee Proiect l!pdate: The resolution was signed by the Board. Now a draft
agreement must go to DOT for finalization. The Town must coordinate with NYSOOT regarding signs - colors,
styles and uniformity in signs.
County Road 48 Roundabout. (2): Jamie made it clear that the scope of the project should include two
roundabouts. Neb suggested that the EEfC might host an informational session on roundabouts since they could
solve traffic congestion on both forks.
Bus Shelters: The County has allowed for six bus shelters to be placed in Southold Town, but it has been possible
to get easements for only three. Therefore, we will go with three shelters at this time.
Manal'ement Plan - Lone Island North Shore Heritaee Area: Neb will meet with the Planning Board and if they
approve of this plan, it will go to the Town Board for approval. The plan is very much in line with the Town's
general philosophy including the Scenic Byway status already in place, and opens up funding possibilities for
historic and scenic preservation, including light houses and historic buildings. It must be signed by December 31,
2006.
Five Town Rural Transit Update: Margaret reported that the grant for $340,000 for the feasibility study has been
awarded. The Town of Southampton will be the lead agency but input is necessary from all five towns. It is
hoped that the Volpe Center in Cambridge, MA will be the consultant since they are a branch of the Federal
Department of Transportation and are thus unbiased and highly experienced. If the study can be completed in
time, 5TRT hopes to present it as a referendum in November 2007.
DPW Suffolk Transit Stu<\y (18 Months): The EEfC reported that the County DPW is doing a Suffolk transit
study, looking at demographics, population centers, and trip generators over a period of eighteen months. This
study is probably a result of dissatisfaction with the current service.
Old Business: Jamie reported on the railroad bridge in Greenport. The state hopes to let bids in Spring 2007.
New Business: The representatives from Cross Sound Ferry asked if we had had any preliminary reports from the
Town transportation study, which is underway. We have not but should hear something soon after the last traffic
count in October. They reported that their traffic on the ferries is down but Shelter Island ferry traffic is up,
carrying 50% more cars than Cross Sound.
Ms. Wachsberger brought up the issue of paving Ryder Farm Road. The Town does not plan to do anything at
this time because it does not own the road.
There should be a "Dead End" sign on the entrance to Queen Street (off Rte. 48) in Greenport because it only
goes into the Eastern Long Island Campgrounds but visitors mistake it for a througb street.
The next meeting will be Monday October 30, 2006 at 10 AM, Southold Town Hall.
Respectfully submitted, Margaret H. Brown
