Orient CausewllY Project Status R<w<>rt: Bill Schlumpf, PE, of Island Structures Engineering was in attendance
and gave a detailed status report of the Orient Causeway Project. In brief, he reported that the utility interface is
completed, preliminary interface with the DOT is complete, DEC interface will occur after DOT, preliminary
underground layout is completed, and NYSOPRHP has been consulted on grants. After the DOT looks at the
cross sectional views Mr. Schlumpf will meet with the DEe. If DEC accepts the proposal, the Army Corps of
Engineers will be brought in. Finally a final cost estimate and time frame for construction will be developed. The
report should be ready in two months. Neb said it is important to stress in the report that this is a "pilot project"
coordinating town, county, state and federal governments and thus offers lessons learned as to how this type of
project can be implemented in other areas. Mr. Schlumpf will return in three months with the preliminary report.
He will get our input and then make a formal presentation to the Town Board.
Oki-Do Ud. Proiect - Shipyard Lane. East Marion: Pat Moore, attorney for the Oki-Do Ltd. Project showed us
plans for the property. The main consideration for this commission is additional traffic. With 114 guest rooms
and perhaps 100 seats in the public portion of the restaurants, plus support staff, considerable traffic could result
on Shipyard Lane and Gillette Drive and their intersections with Rte. 25. The primary entrance will be from
Shipyard Lane. The commission asked that parking location and volume, noise, and employee access be
addressed.
SEEDS Update: The White Paper is nearly completed. One more phone call is necessary to finalize it. It will
then go to each town and village Board with an opporturtity for verbal comment. Then the five towns will come
together to sign the intermunicipal agreement, by August if possible. In the process of developing the
intermunici pal agreement, some funding priorities must be put in place.
Counly Road 48 Roundabout: Neb met the DOT representative, Tatyana Golikova at the EETC meeting who
reported that she had received the $200,000 grant request. The roundabout is in their design department. In
related road safety discussions, it appears that a traffic light will be installed in Southold at Youngs A venue and
Rte. 48 and also at Peconic Lane and Rte. 48. Jamie was never informed by the County about either of these. The
blinking light at Westphalia Road and Rte. 25 in Mattituck is out again due to another accident. Supervisor
Russell suggested putting in a traffic light. Neb will check with him to see if we need to make a statement of
support.
Bus Shelters Update: Neb has received copies of the proposed agreements with Southampton and Riverhead so
our legal department can use them as a model for our own work. We are waiting for a revised proposal from the
Suffolk County DPW. Neb visited all six sites again with Kevin Darcy and gave him the scenic byways
designation.
FIve Town Rural Transit Update: Margaret had nothing new to report.
Old Business: None.
New Business: None.
The next meeting will be Monday May 22, 2006 at 10 AM, Southold Town Hall.
Respectfully submitted, Margaret H. Brown
