Southold Transportation Commission
Southold Town Hall
January 30, 2006
Present: Neb Brashich, Margaret Brown, Frank Field, Ruth Oliva, Cap!. Marty Flatley, Sup!. of Hwys Pete Harris,
Tom Wickham, Jamie Richter, Victor L'eplattenier, guest Daniel Borgo
Goldsmith Inlet Parking: Guest Daniel Borgo was concerned about parking on the road leading into Goldsmith
Inlet Park. Mter a discussion of possible remedies, Jamie said he would look into striping the parking lot for
parking spaces. Pete Harris will prepare a memo to the Town Board asking to make parking legal on one side of
the street only. Before this regulation can become law, it must be presented at a public hearing.
SRROS I !pdate: Neb prepared a memo for the Supervisor Scott Russell regarding the conclusion of the SEEDS
process. It included an outline of steps that might be taken to implement intermunicipal agreements and move
projects forward, specifically by appointing a "Regional East End Coordinator" and a committee made up of two
representatives from the five town boards. Funding for the Coordinator must come from the five towns. Neb will
go to the February14 meeting of the Town Board to discuss this.
Bus Shelters I Jpdate: Neb sent a memo to Supervisor Russell reporting on the present status of county bus
shelters in South old Town. Under the previous administration, the project stailed and it has been suggested that
the Commission become involved in moving the matter along. Neb invited the Supervisor's guidance and
suggested that he and Jamie would go to the Town Board with pictures and prices if called upon. He received a
phone call from the Mattituck Chamber of Commerce saying that the Cardinale family would be willing to
contribute space for a shelter and the Lions are willing to help with construction of the actual shelter.
CVS Si enar": Victor discussed signage at the new CVS in Mattituck, especially as it pertains to truck traffic.
The Planning Office wants the Commission's position on additional signage. Jamie said that there is no way to
legally restrict commercial traffic on local roads. Tom Wickham reported that onsite signs are designed and
placed. If this doesn't work, the town must go back to CVS and ask for better cooperation. It is up to CVS to
monitor and control the delivery trucks so that they do not use the residential side streets. Neb will sen~ a memo
to the town attorneys with this view.
