Warex Project in Mattituck Update
A new site plan, which was highlighted by Amy Thiel, was discussed and approved by the Commission.
The new plan features an increased building size, an adjusted traffic pattern with reduced landscaping,
and a new right turn lane off Route 25 onto Factory A venue. A particularly noteworthy feature is a
redesign of the building's appearance, with reference to the distinctive appearance of the Hess Gas
Station in Bridgehampton (as presented by photos).
Town OrientationlInterpretive Signage Project Update
The contract with the RBA Group of Melville has been signed. Phase # 1, which is expected to start on
December 1, 2007 and be completed by the end of February 2008, provides for a review and inventory
of current signage and recommendations for adjusting the Town Code. The contract specifications call
for the Town of Southold to coordinate with stakeholders and other interests concerning signage issues.
After review by the Transportation Commission, the findings will be presented to the Town Board. A
main goal of the study is the reduction and non-proliferation of signage.
The Heritage at Cutchogue Update
A letter from the Cutchogue Postmaster to the NYSDOT (with copy to the Town Board) was reviewed.
The letter addressed safety and line of sight issues related to the Main Road traffic signal located at the
intersection of New Suffolk Avenue and the Postmaster also made suggestions for the remediation of the
traffic situation.
North Fork Beach Condominium September 24 Request
A petition signed by thirteen condo owners, which discussed traffic issues at the junction of Soundview
Avenue and County Road 48, was reviewed. Separately, it is understood that the SCDPW will soon
start a new drainage program in that area.

Mattituck Stakeholders Traffic Safety Priorities
It was reported that the Planning Board was collecting and cataloguing various stakeholders concerns. It
was pointed out that the Chairman's earlier idea of a pilot program for dealing with similar issues might
be commenced with these Mattituck issues.
SEEDS Update
Neb Brashich, Heather Lanza and Councilman Wickham attended a meeting last week.
As previously reported, the Towns of East Hampton and Southampton have instituted ajoint shuttle bus
service to Stony Brook University Hospital for senior citizens and the disabled. A program for school
bus safety has also been instituted.
It was also reported that the results of Suffolk County Transit's ridership survey will be ready in early
2008 and that the temporary LIRR extra rush-hour local train service between Speonk and Montauk is
working well.
The Volpe Center study commissioned by The Five Towns Rural Transit Group to cover the feasibility
of an East End shuttle service is proceeding.
With respect to land use issues, it was noted that, while the focus of development should be in hamlet
centers, the SCDOH limits development because of sewage disposal issues.
Old Business
Traffic Silmage
Councilman Wickham noted that the previously requested clearance signs for the LIRR trestle in
Mattituck were still outstanding. Notwithstanding that the reconstructed clearance meets NYSDOT
requirements, it was felt that the placement of signs reflecting the new clearance would be beneficial to
motorists and truckers. He also noted that appropriate Left Turn signs at several intersections on CR 48
are still outstanding.
Parking Problem NYS Route 25 and Champlin Place. Greenport
Peter Harris noted that there appears to have been no action to date with respect to the issues previously
raised and discussed. It was also noted that a public hearing with request to signage issues would be
required.
Bus Shelters
The project is proceeding and construction should start in Spring 2008. However, while three shelters
on public property have been approved, three others proposed for placement on private property have
not yet been approved.
2
Amv Thiel
As Amy is relocating and leaving the Planning Department, this is her last meeting with the
Transportation Commission. The commissioners thanked Amy for her service and wished her well in
the future.
New Business
Councilman Wickham reported that the Town Board has taken favorable note of the Commission's
efforts on behalf of the Town and he also noted that the Town Board would be receptive to some level of
regular funding for the Commission's activities.
Mr. Wickham also reported that Congressman Bishop would be convening a meeting with the East End
towns concerning helicopter overflight concerns.
Next Meeting
December 17, 2007 at 10:00 AM.
