I. Town Contact: We understand that we will now report directly to the Council. Mr.Russell and Mr. Wickham will act as liaisons to us for the purpose of communications and decisions. 2. Civil Engineering: Exhibit B (Owner's Responsibilities) Section B2.01(Q)of the original contract states that the Town of Southold will: `Perform or provide the following additional services: All civil engineering, surveying, environmental engineering, and soils engineering". We have assumed that this responsibility remains intact with the Town and that they will provide civil engineering services on the redesigned concept. We will provide: J A redesign for an approximately 6,000 to 8,000 square foot building I The associated changes in building type,building materials,&previous cost saving suggestions I The redesign of the architectural&structural work 4 The redesign of the mechanical,plumbing,electrical,noise control,&animal care equipment J One design meeting to review schematic design concepts approximately one month after approval 4 One meeting to review final construction documents approximately two months after fust meeting I One bid meeting to review the plans with the bidders&respond to questions We will provide the above services for a fixed fee of$80,860. This includes the fees for Design Learned, Inc., Studio a/b,and the structural engineer only. The previous low bid(inclusive of site work)came in at over $320/square foot. This is one of the highest costs we have seen in the nation and astonished us. It is notable that we have had similar cost issues in other New York projects(and only in New York). We will make every effort to bring the new concept in at the budget based on this cost per square foot,however we cannot guarantee that New York contractors will not further increase their costs.
