Box 1179 Southold, New York 11971 Telephone (631) 765-1283 Fax (631) 765-9015 TOWN OF SOUTHOLD DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC WORKS Mr. John Harrison, Fire District Manager Mattituck Fire Department PO Box 666, Pike Street Mattituck, NY 11952 Dear John: In reference to your letter of March 14, 2008 about improving emergency access to Laurel Lake, I met with Senior Bay Constable, Don Dzenkowski and members of my staff to discuss ways to improve access to Laurel Lake, for emergency vechicles, from the Town of South old's Laurel Lake Preserve, on Route 25. The Town of Southold will do the following, the week of March 24, 2008: 1. Trim the trees or shrubs along the asphalt service road to Laurel Lake 2. Widen the gravel access path to the lake 3. Remove the wooden bench, to allow small boat launching 4. Have a small boat, at the launch site, for emergency use. (keys to the lock will be provided to the Southold PD and Mattituck Fire Department) 5. Install signs directing emergency vechicles to the launch site. If you have other suggestions that the Fire Department feels would be helpful, please give me a call. The Board of Fire Commissioners has requested I contact you and request that the Town of Southold clear the present right of way on the town properly in case an emergency situation like the one March 6, 2008 arises again the department will be able to respond qUickly and safely.
