Dear John:
In reference to your letter of March 14, 2008 about improving emergency access to
Laurel Lake, I met with Senior Bay Constable, Don Dzenkowski and members of my
staff to discuss ways to improve access to Laurel Lake, for emergency vechicles, from the
Town of South old's Laurel Lake Preserve, on Route 25.
The Town of Southold will do the following, the week of March 24, 2008:
1. Trim the trees or shrubs along the asphalt service road to Laurel Lake
2. Widen the gravel access path to the lake
3. Remove the wooden bench, to allow small boat launching
4. Have a small boat, at the launch site, for emergency use. (keys to the lock will be
provided to the Southold PD and Mattituck Fire Department)
5. Install signs directing emergency vechicles to the launch site.
If you have other suggestions that the Fire Department feels would be helpful, please give
me a call.
