Re: Special Exception Cichanowicz
Indian Neck Lane
Gentilemen:
Please be advised that I have been requested by Frank Cichanowicz to
review his Application for a Special Exception.
Due to the fact that the Applicant does not wish to create a "labor camp"
in the colloquial sense, but rather only wishes to place one trailer to
house one employee for the purpose of watching over his nursery stock in an
effort to stop the present pilferage, and since an Applicati r a Trailer
Permit may also be necessary, and since my client doe not WI h the
present Application misconstrued by the pur-blic as to jts purpo e or intent,
I hereby withdraw said Application without prejudice./ !

!!: Request f~:.~oeption
Gentlemen:- by Frank ~oWioZIII
Beoause of a conflicting engagement
I cannot be at the soheduled hearing on this
and other cases Thursday evening,23 May,so
lam writing to register my - our - objeotion
to granting this petition as worded in the
notioe.
As I understand it, the main point is
for Briaroliff Sod Farms to have a place for
a oaretaker or watohman for their newly
developing nursery plot there;a reasonable
l\\lluest, but !!21 warranting a down grading of -
the whole Plot, which would have a deleterious
effect on the adjacent and neighboring
properties if it were taken advantage of for
more harmful use in the future..... some sort
temporary arrangement might be worked out to
better neighborhod satistaotion.
21 May 74
As it stands,therefore,we are opposed
to granting this request.

20 May, 1974
Town Board
Southold, New York 11971
Gentlemen,
I have read with concern the proposal for a variance in the zoning
laws in order that a labor camp may be constructed on a parcel of land
which is located on Indian Neck Lane near Leslie Road. I regret that I
cannot be present at 9:20 on Thursday evening, 23 May, to voice in
person my objections to this application.
My objections briefly are the following:
1. Labor camps have a reputation as places with which violence
and public disorder are frequently associated. If this premise is true,
I do not wish to assume the risks of having such a place in the vicinity
of my property.
2. Leslie Road and the area of Indian Neck east of the Kull farms
have become a residential area. Whereas it used to be an area composed
mostly of summer residents, more and more permanent residents are
building their homes, some of which are quite substantial, in this area.
They have done so because of the beauty and the tranquillity of Indian
Neck. In my opinion a labor camp will lessen this tranquillity and will
detract from the scenic beauty of the neighborhood. This in turn will
lower land values.
3. A labor camp will bring to this area a people who have been
exploited because of their poverty, people who will not share the same
interests in the community of the other residents, and who may be
tempted by and may resent the comparitive opulence which they will
see in close proximity. I presume that such a camp will increase the
population density at a time when the Town has been legislating to de-
crease this trend through increased acreage zoning.
It is a strange contradiction that at a time when farms in this area
are being subdivided into residential developments, a fact which I deplore,
a need should now be found in this area for a labor camp.
,
In summary, I object to this proposal because of an appr~hension
that it will decrease the safety of my environment, that it w 11 decrease
the value of my property, and that it will change the charac er and lessen
the peace and beauty of a area in which I have invested mu h love and
treasure.
Yours sincerely, 1It ~. ~
