Southold Transportation Commission Southold Town Hall August 26, 2002 Present: Neb Brashich, Margaret Brown, Frank Field, Bernie Jacobson, Ruth Oliva, Michelle Zaloom, Victor L'Eplattenier, Pete Harris - Supt. of Highways, Jamie Richter, Hwy. Dept. Lt. Marty Ratley, Southold PD, Suzanne Donovan, EE Transportation Coordinator SEEDS Uodate: Neb reported on a Mayors' & Supervisors' Association Retreat that he attended on August 21. A model is to be developed in the next 4 months of how to test transportation and land use scenarios. The outcome will go back to the supervisors and mayors for review and then to the public. Suzanne Donovan has given her resignation as the Transportation Coordinator/Promotion Liaison and the consulting firm, Alley, King Rosen & Remming have begun a search to find her replacement. Seaview Trails: Michelle Zaloom is working on the bicycle maps. Cox Lane and Rte 48: A group of people including Neb, Tom Wickham, Johu Romanelli, Pete Harris, Jamie Richter, Victor L'Eplattenier, ChiefTy Cochran, Lt. Ratley, and Robert Bornholdt of the Suffolk County DPW, met to discuss the traffic hazards resulting from access and egress from the Town Dump. Some kind of traffic control is needed, perhaps a light at Cox Lane. The DPW needs a data base and is doing a traffic count. By the end of September, they may be able to offer some possible solutions. Skipper Horton Park: We received a letter addressed to Supervisor Horton from NYSI'OT Regional Design Engineer Joseph G. Scariza in which he said that the DOT will be delinking the drainage ponds/docks from the resurfacing of Rte. 25 project. While they will not be able to complete the work before Spring of 2003, it is "quite feasible" that the work will be initiated during the Summer/Fall of 2003. NYS Route 25 Sneed Problem: The police department has placed the "Smart Trailer" in Laurel and other locations to remind drivers of the speed limit and to slow down. Lt. Ratley would like to see the speed limit reduced. To do this, the Town Board must petition the state for reduced speed. Neb and Lt. Ratley will work on this. Laurel links: The DOT has agreed not to put a sidewalk from Laurel Links to the eastern end of its property. Ferries on Lon~ Island Sound: Bernie Jacobson attended a meeting to explore the future of ferry traffic on Long Island Sound to the year 2020. Consultants invited people from the East End to meet and discuss the ramifications. Federal money is being filtered through joint agencies in Connecticut and NYMTC. NYMTC has a website for more information. Gatewav Brid~e Reconstruction Proposal: We are scheduled to hear more from NYSDOT in September. Cutcho~ue Parkin~ Lot: The Town is going ahead with a deal it made with Al Terp to pave his parking lot. The next meeting will be Monday, September 30, 2002, at lO:OO AM, Southold Town Hall.
