Southold Transportation Commission DEe 1 u 2001
Southold Town Hall
November 26, 2001~..rn"..,. 'ow," Clerk
Present: Neb Brashich, Margaret Brown, ChiefTy Cochran, Ruth Oliva, Jamie Richter, Michelle Zaloom, Valerie
Scopaz, Suzanne Donovan - EE Transportation Coordinator
SEE)),',: The Stakeholders will meet on December 6 in Hampton Bays. There need to be more representatives
from Southold - of the seven people from Southold who signed up, none attended. The first meting was well
attended except for Southold. A letter and the minutes of the first meeting were sent to all the people who signed
up but did not come. All the notes of the summer meetings are being digested into a document expressing the
concerns of the community. The public document will be available on a new website: www .seedsDroiect.~
Suzanne Donovan has been hired by Lee Heming and Allee King to be the "study coordinator" for the
project. Michael LeVine replaces Barbara Jefferies as Project Coordinator. They (Allee King, Rosen and
Heming) will gather data on the South Fork, as has already been done for L1TP 2000 on the North Fork.
Seaview Trails: The subcommittee is working on the map. They will touch base with Ray Jacobs on getting the
replacement signs up and warning the town mowers to avoid knocking them down. They are also working on
trailhead signs.
Fisher's Island has now indicated an interest in joining the Seaview Trails project and would like to
consider bike trails there. Neb will recommend that they write a proposal to David Glass applying for grant
money.
North Fork Travel Needs Assessment: A draft document of recommendations has been submitted. Neb, among
others objected to the short review period. It will be discussed at the next EillC meeting, December 12 with the
expectation that more time will be requested for review. Neb feels that the "Near Term Recommendations" are
somewhat unconsidered and asked this committee for a careful reading and input before the December 12
meeting.
~ The Town received a letter from Tom Ulrich, Traffic Engineer of the State DOT reporting that after
investigating the traffic light at Rte. 25 and New Suffolk A venue in Cutchogne and traffic out of Griffing Street,
the system is working properly and does not contribute to dangerous traffic conditions. However, they will put a
visor on the light to shield the view of it from drivers trying to exit Griffing Street. Also in Cutchogue, Valerie
will check on the status of the Terp property parking lot
Neb wrote to Brian Dolan of the L1RR on October 18,2001 offering a number of suggestions for
improved service to the North Fork. He felt that the response from Mr. Dolan was woefully inadequate and will
convey the same to the EillC at its next meeting.
The Town Board has drafted a resolution to be sent to the NYSDOT asking for a feasibility study of the
traffic problems at OakIawu A venue and Rte. 25 in Southold in an effort to address the concerns of The
Southwood Property Owners Association.
A memo will be sent to Councilman Bill Moore requesting an update on the status of truck restriction
signs on Love Lane in Mattituck.
Jamie Richter reported that the L1RR bridge replacement on Bridge Lane is not a #1 priority at this time.
The next meeting will be Monday December 10,2001 at 10:00 AM, Southold Town Hall.
Respectfully submitted, Margaret H. Brown
