Present: Neb Brashich, Margaret Brown, Lt. Ty Cochran, Hwy. Supt. Ray Jacobs, Valerie Scopaz
NYSOOT Plans for Route 25: Valerie gave a comprehensive review of the plans (with maps, diagrams
and aerial photos) the NYSDOT has for improvements to Route 25. At the request of the Transportation
Committee and Supervisor Cochran, some of the proposals made by the DOT have been modified in the
interests of safety, particularly for pedestrians and bicyclists. The DOT wants our input on two proposed
drainage areas: Maratooka Pond and across from Environmentals in Cutchogue.
A question arose regarding the installation of traffic lights on Route 48. The County will be
contacted to find out whether there are plans to put lights at Cox and Depot lanes.

Transportation Studv Funding Update: Supervisor Cochran spoke to Craig Siracusa to express the
Town's dismay that funding for the study had been postponed. Communications by the Supervisor and
Neb and the East End Transportation Council to our state representatives (including Acampora, Thiel.
Lavalle) ensued and Wayne Ugolik has reported back that the study has been reinstated and is to begin
January 3. 2000. However, state funding for the required public input segment of the study has been
reduced. Therefore, we have been asked to take responsibility for these two meetings, probably in
February and May. We have agreed to do this and will seek venues.
Other Items: Neb handed out a publication from the State DOT entitled "Examples of Environmental
Initiative Practices, Features, Programs and Activities" which lists practices or features that should be
incorporated into DOT capital and maintenance projects, as well as those that should be considered to
improve the DOT's current environmental performance. He also handed out the report of the East End
Transportation Council entitled "Transportation Action Strategy for 1999."
The next meeting will be November 22 at 8AM, Southold Town Hall.
Respectfully submitted,
Margaret H. Brown
