Southold Town Transportation Committee Southold Town Hall December 14,1997 ",IAN 2 - 1998 Southold Town Clerk Neboysha Brashich, Margaret Brown, Frank Field, George Hubbard, Bernie Jacobsen, Barbara Michelson, David Moore, Valerie Scopaz, and Melissa Spiro Scenic Byways: First open meeting to consider scenic byways study was held. About fIfty people attended. Some members of the advisory committee complained that "no task was charged to the advisory committee." The advisory committee was formed to act as sounding board, liaison, and influencers of the public. At the meeting group "B" discussed what happened in the past when scenic byways designation was pursued. The town board considered this too. Two members have been added to the advisory committee: Robert T. Fitzpatrick, Jr. and Patricia E. McIntyre. A January meeting of the advisory committee will be scheduled to consider how to engage the public. A call-in cable TV show on the subject will be scheduled if possible. Trails: Margaret Brown and Victor Brown met with Steve Ridler. He has a working map for us. We need to develop know how with computer to forge ahead. Trail head signs can be completed when committee gives destination data to Paul Kreiling. Signs on Mattituck loop are almost fully installed. When they are all up, Margaret and Barbara will check them over. STIC will schedule an appearance before Greenport Village Board to get a final directive on Moore's Woods. The "Old House Society"in Cutchogue is proposing to create a brochure highlighting historic sights on Route 25 and adjacent roads. A meeting with Peconic Land Trust's Tim Caulfield will be held in December to discuss PLT's possible role as advisor/consultant on procuring easements by railroad tracks in MattitucklCutchogue. EE Transportation Council: NYS Dept. of Transportation Regional Planner, Richard Schmoltz, will officially join the council. A staff person --who lives in Mattituck-- has been appointed to act as liaison between the five towns and NYS Dept. of Transportation, The intersection on Route 25 by (formerly) Porky's was discussed. When Brecknock Hall development proceeds and changes are needed, DOT will consider local input. LIRR had also joined the council. Misc.: The Shelter Island Ferry Company study on traffic patterns should come out in January. The board of directors will release information in due time.
