HomeMy WebLinkAbout1000-20.-1-1.334920 Main Road Orient, NY 11957 March 15, 1996 Chairman Richard Ward SOUTHOLD TOWN PLANNING BOARD PO Box 1179 Southold, NY 11971 Dear Mr. Ward, I am writing with regard to the request recently submitted to the planning board by my father, Lloyd Terry, which would enable him to set off a five acre parcel of his property located at 36205 Main Road in Orient. The reason for the set-off is to give him the ability to divide his property among his five children. A two acre parcel including s house has already been given to one of his children, Mary Ellen Stevens. He wishes to divide the remainder of the farm into four parcels, each of which will he placed in joint ownership with him and one of his remaining four children. At the time of his death, each piece of property would automatically go to the specified heir. Two of the parcels are already separate from each other and will remain as such. The request to divide the remaining parcel has been made to enable one of my brothers and I to have the rest. It is our intention that the land be preserved as a farm and although we will each ultimately own a separate part of it, my oldest brother, Fred, wi1! continue to farm all of the land. The part of the farm we hope to set-off is the original Terry farm which was started in 1732 by Jonathan Terry. My father sold part of the property several years ago in order to get out of debt. This was ver~ upsetting to our entire fami%y but, at the time, it was the only choice we had. Our family has absolutely no desire to devel~,p any of the remaining land and wall gladly sell the development rights if the town or county want them. If no funds are available at the at the present time for buying development rights, we wi1! do anything to show that our intent is to preserve the farm ~n its present state. I ask, on behalf of my father and the Terry family, that you allow this set=off as requested.
