Committee Reaccointments: All members of STTC asked to be reappointed to STTC
by the Town Board, except Mike Acebo and Merlon Wiggin. Because of his other
involvements with Greenport BID and his job, Mike can no longer find time for STTC,
but agreed to work on specific projects especially as related to kayak trails. The Town
Board has been asked to reappoint the committee and to advertise to fill three
vacancies.
Visit to Ed Petro: Supervisor Cochran and Neb Brashich went to Hauppauge to meet
with Ed Petro, NYSDOT Regional Director, and his assistant, head of planning
department and Dave Glass. They were informed that region #10 (Nassau/Suffolk)
was allocated $12,5 over next five years, more money than anticipated. $950.000 for
Southold's traffic study is in the 96-97 capital budget slated for vote soon. The
consultant is already approved as part of 95-96 operational budget. The RFP is fully
approved and STTC will be part of committee to select consultant. NYSDOT will
narrow list to five or so names before STTC gets involved with selection.
Stormwater mitigation project has been delayed due to death of section head. A
replacement is being hired. The project will cover 5 Eastern Towns. Southold is
ahead of game, because its ten sites have been selected. Jean Cochran wants to add
another site in Southold Village on Youngs Ave. by Mechanic Road.
Twice a year, the supervisor of project management for region 10, Michael Azer, will
send a report to Southold Town on NYSDOT projects and plans.
Neb also called on Dave Glass to inquire about funding for trails. ISTEA projects for
1996 will be announced by mid-April. He was encouraging about the chances for
Seaview Trails.
Visit to Suffolk Countv Decartment of Public Works: NB & JC called on Public Works
Department and discussed problems of Town Beach in Southold. They also
discussed water problems in Mattituck at inlet by Love Lane. County engineer will fix
immediately and work on long term solution. Budget for 97-98 will address fully.
Town will consider taking over maintenance of Route 48 on reimbursement basis. JC
will discuss with Ray Jacobs. 'S.1. and East Hampton do this on their portions of
County roads. The advantages foreseen are quicker response time and opportunity or
town to increase capital equipment at no cost to taxpayer.
Kavak Launch Procosal Resubmitted: Mike Acebo resubmitted kayak launch grant
proposal on March 15th. If funds are granted, Mike will help STTC follow through.
Scope of Services for Trails Consultant: Margaret Brown and NB wrote scope of
services for trails consultant and will pass copies to committee at next meeting.
P & E Grachics to Execute Trail Sians: Paul Kreiling's proposal to do colored route
signs was accepted. Colors only will be used. He will be asked to simplify trail heads
signs and make a maplbrochure proposal. Barbara Michelson will be liaison for trails
subcommittee and will follow up pedestal sign design.
Next meeting will be Tuesday, April 23, 1996 at 4:00PM in Town Hall Cont. Room.
