Southold Transportation Committee Southold Town Hall August 15, 1995 Present: Neboysha Brashich, Mike Acebo, Margaret Brown, Victor Brown, Barbara Michelson, Valerie Scopaz; guests: Freddie Wachsberger, Susan Madigan, and Charrlie Mann of 'Southold Citizens for Safe Roads", Steve Ridler, Department of State The minutes of the August 1 meeting, were approved as read. The meeting began with remarks by Freddie Wachsberger (SCSR). She gave a history of the Cross Sound Ferry presence in Orient, particularly addressing the fact that no boundaries were ever placed on the ferry in terms of number of trips or number of passengers. See attached history. The view of SCSR is that a parking/staging area in Greenport does not solve the problem. A list totaling 13 items which the SCSR will urge the Town of Southold to pursue was presented to the Transportation Committee (attached). The SCSR would like to work with the Transportation Committee. The Committee must seek permission of the Town Board to move in this direction, but in theory would be amenable to such a joint effort as long as it falls within the parameters of the Committee mandate. Steve Ridler of DOS reported that our grant is getting closer to reality. They are waiting for DOT clearance. The new Secretary of State says that now the money must go directly to the Town, not through DOS. Therefore, the Town will have to do the RFP and handle all the money. Ridler has shortened the work schedule from 18 months to 9 months. Neb has copies of the document and a list of approved consultants. Dwayne Early has been approved by the Town Board to join the Transportation Committee. He will be notified by Neb. Neb distributed copies of the final draft of "Seaview Trails of the North Fork". He, and any other members of the committee who are available, will attend the next Town Board work session at 10:30 AM to present the final proposal. He will also seek approval for the Committee to work with SCSR and discuss the five items the Committee wishes to address with regard to ferry traffic (as per the Aug. I minutes). Ray Jacobs of the Town Highway Department called regarding signs for Phase I of the trails project. He had a call from 3M who might help us with signs. He needs to know the number of signs in each category. Neb will prepare a budget for the next fiscal year. Our next regular meeting will be Tuesday, August 29, 1995 at4PM in Town Hall. Respectfully submitted, Margaret Brown
