Present: Mike Acebo, Neboysha Brasich, Victor Brown, Kevin Christie,
Duane Early, Barbara 'Michelson, and Valerie Scopaz
Neb announced that Bernie Jacobsen, President of North Ferry, has been
appointed to the committee, making the committee full once again
Neb circulated copies of the latest Dunn Engi(1eering Assoc, report The
vision statement has been expanded with regard to the uniqueness of
South old Town,
Neb noted that no response has been received from SCSR. Neb attended
their rally, at which 150 (approx,) where present Neb will send revised
scope of service to Thor Hansen, Duane commented that the ferry's
efforts during Maritime Festival were fairly successful. Also some
opposition to the ferry proposed for Greenport has been forming Counsel
for the town and counsel for Cross Sound Ferry were to have appeared
before a judge, but the meeting was not held, Mike raised a question about
whether CSF has a dredging permit for its on-going dredging Valerie will
get a copy of the original charter as requested by Barbara
The request for funding for a kayak launch was denied. Also denied
were the Greenport harbor walk and harbor management proposals
Valerie will find out what projects were funded instead. The prOjects
could 6e revived if all the projects awarded $ do not actually go forward.
DOS is presently offering to supply a trail coordinator in conjunction with
NPS grant.
NPS will not give us a response until Congress passes a budget. If we
get $ from NPS, Carl Beard plans to do 'mini cnarettes" Instead of store-
front canvassillg. Kevin agreed to be liaison with high school students to
obtain input on the Moore's Woods project Victor will share Paul
Stoutenberg's booklet on Moore's Woods with Kevin Duane feels it IS
premature to look at manpower and physical needs of Moore's Woods at
this point
Duane proposed eritering Greenport from Moore's Woods via the RR
corridor. Victor will schedule Bob Lazaro to discuss this and the R R
portion of the Mattituck trail
Valerie proposed asking open space committee about acquiring land
south of 25 and west of Moore's Woods to expa~d green belt.
Neb wrote Alexander Treadwell, Secy. of State, for help getting
promised scenic byways study .funds currently at impasse.
Bicycle advisory committee for Brookhaven Town asked us to share our
"expertise" especially in regard to liability and costs. Neb invited them
to come see our proposal
Ruth Oliva, Valerie and Neb will attend American Planning Association's
1995 New England regional conference "What Works for New England --
the Dynamics of Change in our Region" at Foxwoods.
Neb asked Mike and Duane whether Maritime Festival raised any
additional traffic needs to be incorporated in traffic study. DOT does not
plan any work in downtown Greenport until 1998
Mike asked if Greenport could be included in Southold Town Harbor
Study (LWRP). Valede offered to speak with DOS to fold it in. Duane will
get reaction from Village.
Our next meeting will be Wednesday, October 11th at 4:00 PM. in Town
Hall.
