Southold Transportation Committee Southold Town Hall - 4 PM Minutes -AugustA~ 1994 Present: Michael Acebo, Neboysha Brashich, Margaret Brown, Bob Brown, Victor Brown, Gail Horton, Barbara Michelson, Valerie Scopaz Neb reported on his meeting at the DOT in Hauppauge. He brought back a booklet discussing traffic control and traffic signals. Apparently, many traffic signals across the country are not functioning properly and cause great loss of time, wasted gas and air pollution. Neb is still trying to find out the status of our $50,000 grant. His queries have brought no response. Valerie has sent a fax to John Bartow and is awaiting his response. Svmposium: We reviewed the program as it stands. Barbara suggested the addition of an equestrian section. This will be added to "Other Forms of Transportation" and she will ask Zimmer Farms if someone there would participate. Gail suggested the addition of a section on commuting. We will add carpooling or rideshare to "Automobiles". We discussed the Symposium schedule (i.e. how to be sure each car hears the complete program within the time allotted), speakers, and funding (we will ask a donation of $5.00 for the food). We also looked at the proposed list of participants. If we have three cars, we can take 150 people, total. We need to think carefully about who to invite because of the limited space. Each committee member will study the list and will add and delete names to be discussed at our next meeting. We need a broad spectrum of people so that afterwards there will be wide support for the resulting recommendations. We will need microphones in each car of the train, and an easel for large note taking. Each car (or each subject) must also have a dedicated recorder, so that we will have accurate notes. Suggested dress code for symposium: "no tie ". We may ask Supervisor Wickham and Mayor Kapell to make opening and closing remarks. We will encourage people to attend the "Wrap up" session even if they cannot spend the day on the train. Barbara will figure out the cost of food for each part, and will let us know where to go to ask for donations, or good prices. Gail will work out a plan to go to local businesses for advertising. Other Business: Valerie brought two large maps for us to look at and decide which to use for our work. We chose the larger size, and we would like three copies. We will try to use them on the train. Our next meeting will be Tuesday, AugustJO at 4 PM in the Town Hall.
