Southold Town Hall -4 PM
Minutes- August 30,1994
Present: Michael Acebo, Robert Bayley, Neboysha Braschich, Margaret Brown, Bob Brown, Victor Brown,
Gail Horton, Barbara Michelson, Merlon Wiggin, Valerie Scopaz
Symposium: Committee members to have individual lists for next week. We discussed Two lists, one for
dign~aries and one for guests. Dign~ary list must be fast tracked asking for a principal participant or a
representative sent by principal. These invitations must be R.S.V.P. Sept. 20. Follow inv~ation by phone
call. Neb will create list of Dign~aries.
Inwations to state "first come, first serve".
Merlon says we will maybe get a 50% response to inv~tions and 25 people will show up w~hout
responding.
Neb wants 20 seats for public, first come, first serve.
Do we need tickets to get on train to prevent last minute overcrowding?
Barbara suggests opening up reception to include those unable to take the day off but wanting to
have some participation.
List of guests was discussed w~h categories added as to types of organizations and businesses
to be inv~ed. List will be revised next week.
Symposium Prospectus: Bob Bayley feels topic titles are too boring and will not create interest. Bob will
bring new topic heading ideas next week.
Gail has book, Minioo Group Gold, if she has time she will highlight ideas for symposium. We need
good note takers in each car.
Souvenir Bulletin: Gail will head up w~h help from others to collect ads etc. Ward Tech. can print, $100 +/-
Need stories of interest pertaining to transportation.
D.O.T. Monies are not yet available for printing etc.
Other Business:
Storm Water Mitigation, Town to provide engineering.
Neb discussed Traffic Study and "Scope of Services". Need for D.O. T. language. Dunn
Associates has been inv~ed to subm~ proposal. " Scope of Services" to cost $3200.00.
Neb mentioned letters from Pat Accompora and stated she is moving on East End needs.
ie."State must look at demographics and geography" when funding grants.
Valerie discussed meeting she, and I think Victor, attended which was a workshop coordinating
Nassau/Suffolk municipal~y grant applications. She discussed system used by Fed. Highway Adm. to pay
out tax monies based on road classifications. Recent upgrades on Town roads, Bayview, may bring future
monies for bike paths etc. Valerie will try to obtain Highway Classification Map updates.
Southold Hamlet has been upgraded to urban. Victor says changes are made due to population.
Valerie stated we need to get a grass roots pol~ical system running to get the interest level up for
bike routes. This will help get the public involved. We need bike club people also working with us to
guide us down the proper path.
