Southold Transportation Committee Southold Town Hall - 4 PM Minutes -September 13, 1994 Present: Bob Bayley, Neboysha Brashich, Bob Brown, Margaret Brown, Victor Brown, Gail Horton, Barbara Michelson, Merle Wiggin The entire meeting was devoted to plans for the Symposium. The afternoon segment of the agenda was significantly revised in an attempt to stimulate discussion on finding solutions to transportation problems in the future. Specifically, the new title for the afternoon session is "Shaping Transportation for Tomorrow: Looking Toward 2005". We will attempt to have speakers from New York State DOT give us statistical predictions of the type and volume of traffic to expect in the future on the North Fork if we do nothing to plan remedies now. Discussion leader-teams were chosen, and each team will stay in one car for the afternoon. Gail Horton and Bob Brown, Bob Bayley and Victor Brown, and MW Acebo and Merlon Wiggin will be the teams. There will be one or two practice sessions on discussion-leading, led by Gail. Each team will be prepared with discussion starters - ideas for solutions such as were identified in the original agenda, but the goal is to inspire audience participation and input. A raporteur will be assigned to each car to take careful notes. In the morning, Valerie Scopaz and possibly Antonia Booth, Town Historian, will review the history of transportation on the North Fork, and members of the original transportation committee will review the transportation core concept. Merle Wiggin reported that Sterlington Deli will make sandwiches for us at $3.50 each, and will deliver them to the Station the morning of the Symposium. Tom Wickham will donate apples and cider. Barbara gave some ideas on expediting the serving of lunch (e,g., each participant will be given a bag or other container to collect lunch in). The packet of materials given to each participant at registration will include basic information about our effort to date, some articles about transportation problems and solutions, possibly Victor's article "Slippery When Wet", a souvenir booklet, and other items. Barbara will work on assembling this. Gail will bring the information regarding the souvenir booklet, especially ad prices, to the next meeting so the committee can help her with it. BOCES will print it for us at a reasonable price. The meeting was adjourned at 6:30PM. Our next meeting will be Tuesday, Sept. 20 at 4PM, Town Hall Conference Room Respectfully submitted, Margaret Brown
