Present: Neboysha Brasich, Margaret Brown, Robert Brown, Victor Brown, Barbara
Heaney, Frank Field, Bernie Jacobsen, Barbara Michelson, Valerie Scopaz, Melissa
Spiro
Status of the $1 Million Traffic Study: Neb Brasich and Valerie Scopaz went to
Hauppauge to meet with DOT's head planner and ascertain the fate of the traffic study.
The $1 million had been promised by the previous administration and seemingly moth
balled by the present one. Neb and Valerie discussed the work of the East End
Transportation Council with him and came away with a new commitment to fund the
study. Consultant selection will begin soon; STTC will have members sitting in on all
meetings. The DOT planning staff also asked to appear before the E.E. Transportation
Council.
The $50,000 for the Scenic Bvwavs study has been awarded: On 3/4/97 the Town
Board will vote on ratification. If the Town Board is in agreement, an RFP will be
issued in April.
Final sian off is imminent: Albanv will release trail monev promised to Southold:
When word is received, the RFP for consultants on this project will be issued.
Proposal for desian work and plantina plan for kavak launch sites has been submitted:
A landscape architect, recommended by Glynnis Berry, has drawn plans for use at
kayak launch sites.
Representatives of the National Park Service are expected to arrive the afternoon of
3/3/97 and to hold meetinas throuahout 3/4: The representatives will be Carl Beard,
Director of NPS region for New York State, Charles Tracy, Director for New England,
Todd Richardson, Landscape Architect, Diane Abell, planner on Fire Island. Steve
Ridler of DOS will join them. At 5:00 PM on Tuesday March 4th, they will present their
vision for Moore's Woods based on community input and their explorations.
On 3/4/97, Valerie Scopaz will lead a meetina on arant seekina strateav.
Maraaret Brown and Barbara Michelson met with Rav Jacobs to discuss placement of
sians on bike routes: New Suffolk and Bayview trails have been fully plotted and signs
will soon appear. Provision must be made at New Suffolk kayak launch for out of
town visitors to park without town stickers. Margaret and Barbara will initiate a meeting
to work out details with ST Parks and Recreation Committee. This conflict will occur
again in other trails.
Next Meeting scheduled for April 7, 1997 at Town Hall.
