Moore's Woods: The meeting with the National Park Service regarding the Moore's Woods
project has been re-scheduled to May 5 at () AM in the Greenport Village Conference Room.
Charles Tracy will be absent.
Scenic Corridor Mana~ement Plan OSTEA): We will have a pre~RI;P conference at lOAM on
May 14 in the large conference room at Town Hall for those interested in making bids. The
Transportation Committee should attend. 58 information packages were sent oul to potential
bidders. We should give ill!!: input to make c1ellr what we want to see done in the town. We
need to plan a field trip to highlight specilll aspects of the town, possibly using II minibus. Steve
Ri,lIer will attend this meeting l1!1(1 Gayle Marriner-Smith has been invited.
We will plan the day to hegin with >1 "show and tell" session followed by a tOllr, lunch
and then re~convene at 3:30 for a wrap-up.
The Transportation Committee willllleet at <) AM thllt morning to go over details.
Traffic Study: Joe Townsend stopped in and sllggested that we look into overall traffic ,
especially regardillg the ferries. Neh told himlllat NYSf)OT will do a traffic stlldy lwginning
April of 1998 and this slimmer they will start haselin,' data gllthering for the town, Valerie will
work with Wayne lJgolik on datll collection. Joe Townsend will get us II copy of a grant
proposal he made to address the anticipated traffic for casinos in Connecticut. It also addresses
scenic overlooks and open space on the North Fork.
East End TransDortation Council: Vlllerie gave a sllmmary of the EETC's Transportation Report
to the Mayors and Supervisors meeting April 2-'. They were supportive.
Bicycle Trails: Barbara Michelson and Margaret Brown gave a report on the bicycle/kayak
parking permits problem, Barbara attended a Town Board work session and reported that the
hOllrd memhers prefer some type of dispensers over the emploY'lll,.,t of more nlanpower. We will
call the British Travel Office in NYC to find out ahout permit dispensers used in Britain.
Jim McMahon would lik" liS to move the Soundview Avenue Segment trailhead 10
McCabe's Beach instead of using Goldsmith's. He says there is not enough parking at
Goldsmith's. If we change to McCabe's, the....' is a need for the parking to be upgraded and
landscaping to be added, Barbara and Margaret will work 011 this sllggestion. We arc still
waiting to hear from Paul Kreiling about the stalus of the "dot" signs,
L1RR: There will be a meeting May 2 with North Fork Bank and the I.ong Island Railroad (Mr.
LaRocca) to discuss the parking lot at the train slat ion in Mattituck. This would also be a good
time to discuss the train/bicycle paths proposed from Mattiluck to Depot Lane and in Greenport
from Silvennere Road to the train station.
County Road Widening Plans: We discussed a I'nll'osalmade hy the Suffolk County
Department of Puhli" Works to widen Ronit' 4X at ('Ilapel I .alle iu order to add a turning lane.
The commiUee does not view this as a posit.;"e step and hclieves it may adually increase the
danger on this curVe.
The next meeting will be Wednesday May 14, 1997, () AM at Southold Town Hall.
