Victor Brown, Barbara Heaney, Barbara Michelson Valerie Scopaz, Melissa Spiro Scenic Bvwavs: We will sign an agreement with Farandino and Associates to begin work on the Scenic Byways Project. Supervisor Jean Cochran has signed the agreement. There will be two operating committees - a Steering Committee and an Advisory Committee. The Steering Committee, proposed by the Supervisor, will consist of: Valerie Scopaz Alice Hussie Neb Brashich Elaine McDuffy, The Down Home Store John Greene, member of the Landmarks Preservation Committee. The Advisory Committee will have an open number. At least three members of the Transportation Committee will be members. The purpose of this committee will be to give advice to the steering committee and to assist in the Town Meetings for community input which are required as part of the overall process. An announcement will be sent to the newspapers discussing the Scenic Byways plans and will include a request for members of the community to submit resumes if they are interested in joining one of the committees. The first meeting with Farandino and Associates will be October I at I :30 PM. Moore's Woods: Neb met with Greenport Mayor Dave Kapel! and the Mayor suggested that the Village Board and Neb meet in the Woods last Tuesday. The meeting was canceled and will be re-scheduled when Neb returns from Europe (after Sept. 23). The Village must decide by early October if it wishes to proceed with plans to create a natural educational preserve including (restored) hiking and bicycling trails along the lines proposed by the National Park Service, if the $50,000 in grant money is to be secured. East End Transportation Committee: This committee will meet October 2. If anyone from the Transportation Committee has more suggestions for improvements to Rte. 25, they should be submitted to Valerie as soon as possible. Barbara Heaney reported that the Greenport Village Board will meet with the State Department of Transportation on September 16 to discuss the State's plans for Front Street improvements: underground electric lines, speed limits, parking. The scope of this work begins at 6th Street and goes to Main Street. Transportation Committee Membership: The Town has advertised in the local newspapers twice for new members to submit resumes for membership on the committee. Three names ha'.'p. been received. They will be interviewed on Wednesday, September 10 beginning at 8:30 AM. Soundview A venue Re-pavin2: Glynis and Victor met with Ray Jacobs to discuss several suggestions Glynis had for the road improvements. $191,000 is available for this work. iVIr. Jacobs will lower the crown of the road in several places, and will attempt to make more room for bicyclists. He feels that the less impact he needs to make on the homeowners. the betic", and he will try to keep the road looking as much like a country lane (as it does now) as is pussible, within the bounds of safetv and maintenance.
