Scenic Bvwavs: The steering committee for the scenic byways project is in place. The
first meeting with Ferrandino & Associates is tentatively scheduled for October 1st,
provided the newspapers provide timely notice to the community of the need for
members. The three other meetings are planned for before Thanksgiving, January
and May.
Seaview Trails: The first of the signs have been put up along the Mattituck route.
Margaret Brown presented a prototype of the trailhead sign. After receiving feedback
from committee members, Paul Kreiling will finish signs.
The preservation committee will discuss the kayak trails in their next session.
So far only the "sandy beach" site in Greenport has been funded.
Neb will attend a meeting with Mayor Kapell and the Greenport trustees in
Moores Woods to determine what action (if any) will be taken on the NPS proposals.
STC will ask Ferrandino & Assoc. to perform Phase II advisory work in the
course of their scenic byways work.
ISTEA Federal Fundina: ISTEA II is now being considered in Congress. The original
ISTEA funding may be extended for six months.
EE Transoortation Council: Group will meet October 2nd to finalize the report on
arterial management. DOT invited Council to sit on Advisory Committee for the "Long
Island Transportation Plan" to manage congestion.
Local DOT Work: Barbara Heaney reported on the DOT - Village of Greenport
meeting. Greenport will give up one side of on-street parking along Front Street and
will add a parking lot. The pedestrian crossing problems will be addressed.
The DOT will be looking into traffic concerns west of Greenport. STC members
may list any trouble spots that should go on the list.
Stormwater Mitiaation: The promised grant was removed due to political maneuvering
in Albany. The eight easiest sites will still be handled as part of road reconstruction
projects. The two difficult sites will be considered in the five year plan. Southold
Town will supply engineering leadership.
Membership: David Moore has been appointed to fill the vacancy. Greenport's new
liason will be George Hubbard.
Next meeting will be October 20 at 8:00 AM in Town Hall.
