Box 1179 Southold, New York 11971-0959 Suuthold Town Board of Trustees Dear Members of The Town Board of Trustees: We are submitting this application to obtain permission to make minor changes to our property at 1450 Three Waters Lane in Orient Point. We purchased the property in 2005 and since then the edges of the backyard near the water have sustained some wind erosion and weeds have overtaken the edges of the property. We are aware of the sensitive coastal environmental issues so we consulted Lakeside Landscaping of Southold for their input. Lakeside Landscaping did the landscape redesign of the Orient by the Sea Park next door and has suggested a similar planting scheme for our yard. The plan is enclosed. We intend to remove opportunistic weeds that have overgrown on the property perimeter and replace them with salt tolerant and native plant species known to thrive in this area. We will be reducing the size of our lawn area to accomplish this and none of the beachfi-ont area or beach grass will be disturbed. We also have a multiply handicapped son who uses a wheelchair. We would like to create a path to the end of our yard to wheel him close to the water but not on the rocky beach area. The beachfront is too difficult to push his wheelchair. We are proposing a brick in sand walk to a platform that would hold a screen enclosure for him, as he is very sensitive to insect bites. The platform would only be secured to the ground in a temporary manner and would be removed at the end of the season. We would create a small beach area (see attached plan) on our existing lawn by removing a section of lawn and adding sand with native grasses and salt tolerant plantings surrounding it. Hopefully this plan meets with your approval as we would like to begin the project this spring. Please contact me at 631-689-5002 if any further explanation is necessary.
