HomeMy WebLinkAbout02/01/1943 SWC:A-147 SUFFOLK COUNTY WAR COUNCIL Office of the Director of Civilian Protection Griffing Avenue Riverhead, New York February 1, 1943 TOI DEPUTY COUNTY DIRECTORS OF CIVILIAN PROTECTION FROM: COUNTY DIRECTOR OF CIVILIAN PROTECTION SUBJECT: PROTECTIVE LIGHTING INDUSTRIAL PLANTS The fOllowing is quoted from a letter dated January 19th from the Office of the State Director .of Civilian Protection: "The following ruling of the Commanding General, Second Service Command, will apply to your protective lighting, 'Industrial plants using exterior lights for protection against sabotage are required to extinguish these lights along with other visible lights when the blackout signal is given, However, in order to provide maximum protection these lights only may be relighted after one minute of blackout, All other lights including 'those on parking lots, gateways, etc.. must remain out until the end of the blackout period," The foregoing is furnished for your information and guidance, /hf FLOYD D. HOUSTON Director Civilian Protection SWC:A-l48 SUFFOLK COUNTY WAR COUNCIL Office of the Director of Civilian Protection Hriffing Avenue Riverhead, New York February 1, 1943 TO: FROM: DEPUTY COUNTY DIRECTORS OF CIVILIAN PROTECTION COUNTY DIRECTOR OF CIVILIAN PROTECTION SUBJECT:RATION ORDER 5C, (USE OF AUTOMOBILES IN CONNECTION 1VITH CIVILIAN PROTECTION). There follows an extract from a letter dated January 19th from the Office of the State Director of Civilian Protection: "This office is in receipt of a letter dated January 15, 1943 from Mr. George Myers, Chief Attorney, Office of Price Administration, Albany District Office, 112 State Street, Albany, N.Y. on the subject; "Ration Order 5C, Gasoline - Amendment to Section 1394, 8161, effective January 7, 1943. In view of the questions that have been raised in certain communities as to the use of privately owned automobiles by members of our Civilian Protection organizations in this State, we are quoting in part from the above letter as follows: "You are advised that under the Amendment to the above Ration Order, effective January 7, 1943, volunteer workers, rpgularly appointed by your office, for services in Civilian Protection and Defense, may use their Basic Rations for driving in connection with discharge and performance of their duties in such services in attending regular meetings, observation posts and blackouts, and will include Post-observers, air raid wardens, auxiliary POlice, auxiliary firemen, and emergency medical services, such driving being considered necessary for the war effort." It would seem as if this rUling of the Office of Price Ad- ministration definitely permits all duly enrolled members of Civilian Protection in this State to use their cars in connection with the performance of duties connected with Civilian Protection. This office has been further informed that under no con- ditions should any Inspector of the Office of Price Admin- istration take any license numbers of any cars while the owners are in attendance at meetings in connection with Civilian Protection.
