DEPUTY COUNTY DIRECTORS OF CIVILIAN PROTECTION
COUNTY DIRECTOR OF CIVILIAN PROTECTION
SUBJECT:RATION ORDER 5C, (USE OF AUTOMOBILES IN CONNECTION 1VITH
CIVILIAN PROTECTION).
There follows an extract from a letter dated January 19th
from the Office of the State Director of Civilian Protection:
"This office is in receipt of a letter dated January 15,
1943 from Mr. George Myers, Chief Attorney, Office of
Price Administration, Albany District Office, 112 State
Street, Albany, N.Y. on the subject; "Ration Order 5C,
Gasoline - Amendment to Section 1394, 8161, effective
January 7, 1943.
In view of the questions that have been raised in certain
communities as to the use of privately owned automobiles
by members of our Civilian Protection organizations in
this State, we are quoting in part from the above letter
as follows:
"You are advised that under the Amendment to the
above Ration Order, effective January 7, 1943,
volunteer workers, rpgularly appointed by your
office, for services in Civilian Protection and
Defense, may use their Basic Rations for driving
in connection with discharge and performance of
their duties in such services in attending regular
meetings, observation posts and blackouts, and
will include Post-observers, air raid wardens,
auxiliary POlice, auxiliary firemen, and emergency
medical services, such driving being considered
necessary for the war effort."
It would seem as if this rUling of the Office of Price Ad-
ministration definitely permits all duly enrolled members
of Civilian Protection in this State to use their cars in
connection with the performance of duties connected with
Civilian Protection.
This office has been further informed that under no con-
ditions should any Inspector of the Office of Price Admin-
istration take any license numbers of any cars while the
owners are in attendance at meetings in connection with
Civilian Protection. II
