HomeMy WebLinkAbout01/02/1943 SWC:C-13 SUFFOLK COUNTY WAR COUNCIL Office of the Director of Civilian Protection Griffing Avenue Riverhead, New Yo~k January 2, 194) TO: FROM: SUBJbCT: All Police Chiefs County Director of Civilian Protection Enforcement ef Re~ulations On November 22nd, 1941, lighting regulations were promulgated for the county of Suffolk by the Director of Civilian Protection pursuant to authority vested by the New York state War Emergency Act, Such regulations were promulgated for the protection and safety of the civilian population, and unless such regulations are enforced, the civilian population do not derive the benefit of such protective measures. Violations of any regulation promulgated for Suffolk County con~ stitutes either an infraction or misdemeanor and are prosecuted under Article 10, Sections 101 and 102 of the New York State War Emergency Act. It is essential that regulations pertaining to automobile head- lights be strictly enforced for two reasonsl First, to bring about compliance with the d1mout program ordered by the U. S. Army; second, as a safety measure. Those complying with regulations are many times blinded by on- coming unshielded or upper-beam headlights which in turn cause near acciddnts. You are hereby requested to instruct your personnel to issue summonses to violators of regulations. You will be contacted shortly by the Deputy County Director of your area concerning a county-wide drive on January 12th, 13th, and 14th, and I request that you give him your utmost cooperation.
