SUFFOLK COUNTY Wll.R COUNCIL
Office of the Director of Civilian Protection
Griffing Avenue Riverhead, New York
December 2, 1942
TO: Deputy County Directors
Chiefs of 3rd Division
Police Chiefs
SUBJECT: Enforcement of New Headli~ht Regulations
It is again time for all police and auxiliary police to make
a further check on automobile headlights.
For drivers to comply with the new regulations, the following
should be borne in mind:
1 - The car headlight screening should be half-way down the
lens or more and of an opaque material.
2 - On many headlights the paint is coming off which allows
more light than the regulations require. ll.ll police should
be called out to check the above, and violators given a
ticket if they do not heed a warning.
3 - ll.ll motorists whose headlights are not shielded in the
prescribed manner should be fined.
4 - Upper beam headlights have been banned throughout the
County for the duration. It has been noted that there are
a great many violations in this regard. Those using upper
beam headlights should be given summonses on the spot.
5 - In "visible from sea" areas only normal parking lights
(3 candle power bulbs ), or less, may be used.
Please be kind enough to comply with this at once and do not let
up in the enforcement thereof.
