HomeMy WebLinkAbout10/06/1942 SWC:A-lll SUFFOLK COUNTY WAR COUNCIL Office of the Director of Civilian Protection Griffing Avenue Riverhead, New York October 6, 1942 TO: Deputy County Directors of Civilian Protection FROM: County Director of Civilian Protection SUBJECT: RADIO STATION TOWER NAVIGATION LIGHTS FOR YOUR INFOllMATION AND COM1>LIANCE: The First Fighter Command has requested that all local Control Centers in which there are located radio station tower navigation lights make arrangements immediately to notify, by telephone, such radio stations so that the radio stations may comply with all regulations covering blackout upon issuance of the red signal, originating by order of Headquarters, First Fighter Command. You will contact any radio station in your area which has any radio station tower ~avigation light or lights and complete arrangements so that the radio stations m'l.Y be immodiataly ,1:,tified by the local Control Centers of the issuance of any "red" air raid message or signal, o~iginat1ng by order of Headquarters, First Fighter Com- mand. The notification of radio stations owning radio station tower navigation lights is necessary so that all radio station tower navigation lights can be extin- guished during such blackouts. The responsibility for extinguishing radio tower lights rests with the radio stations themselves. Extinguishment of radio tower lights is not necessary during practice blackouts. See Paragraph 3, Bulletin SWC:A-IIO, dated October 2, 1942. Personnel receiving calls from Control Center at Riverhead should be thoroughly schooled insofar as tho messages are concerned. Particular notice should be taken of the words "Practice Alert" inasmuch as -Practice Alert" in- ~luded in tbo naseagu would mean that radio tower lights need not be extinguished, w!'e~E:,"o .1 m',~u"'ge wi't,ho'lt the words "Practice Alert" would necessitate radio towur lights be extinguished.
