The Sheriff reported relative to uniforms of Minute Men at Bay Shore; that they belonged to the Emergency Squad of the Fire Department and, if injured, could thus seoure oompensation. The Sheriff also reported that there were approximately 652 Minute Men in all towns of Suffolk County. Upon motion, duly seoonded and carried it was resolved that the Sheriff certify to the Division Commanders a list of the de- puties in their towns, to be checked by each Commander and any abaentee or inactive member required to turn in both badge and commission. Upon motion made, seconded and duly carrie9 it was resolved that Augustus Englert secure ten samples of arm bands and forward same to the Sheriff, who will. in turn forward one to each Divi- sion Commander for adoption by his group as .the official Minute Men insignia to be sewn on sleeve of uniform. The Sheriff requested that eaoh Division Commander prepare a report, similar to that submitted by Mattituck Unit, as to attend- ance, stations and activities of each group during a blackout. Ea~h Divisioh Commander must have his men assigned to special points to be protected during each blackout. Report by r~attitubk Unit covering activities during last black- out read to the group. . Divisional Commander EVans reported. On activities of ~ut111ary Pollee in Port Jefferson, as did Vice Commander Ter~y Tuthill upOn those in Greenporb. It appearing that these groups. are being as- signed points to guard, incidents to cover, all being armed. The Sheriff will oonsult with proper authorities relative to this when a report will be. made to this group. . - J Discussion came up regarding the relative assignments of the ,Minute Men and the Auxiliary Police, and the consensus of opinion was that the Auxiliary Police was an organization of passive re- sistance, and might cause considerable trouble in an emergency by being equipped with fire arms which would lend the entire group of civilian defense open to military combat, which jeopardizes to a certain degree all members engaged in the defense program in the County. The possibility of some arrangement being made by Mr. Houston regarding definite assignments in the various towns so that there would be no confusion between the Minute Men and the Auxiliary Police was t~lked over and the Sheriff agreed to take this matter up with t~. Houston. The Sheriff reported that the County Radio Sending Station will be located at the Court House in Riverhead instead of the County Farm at Yaphank. No further business being in order, a motion to adjourn made and carried, to meet at the call of the Sheriff.
