To the Southold Town Clerk:

My name is Debra McGuinness and I live at 1760 Bailie Beach Road in Mattituck. I am writing
representing the Homeowners Association of Bailie Beach with regard to parking. To park at Bailie
Beach, a permit is required, and thankfully unlawful cars are summoned. The problem is that unlawful
cars have realized that they can park past the 500 foot limit and not be fined. These cars parked on
Bailie Beach present two issues. One is that they are putting stress on the wetlands by parking halfway
on the wetlands and halfway on the street and most times leaving their trash behind. Secondly, and
most important, it presents a public safety issue because if these cars are parked illegally on the street,
there is not enough room for people to walk anywhere but the street. If you are familiar with Bailie
Beach Road, you will note that there is a very sharp curve that motorists' sometimes speed around and
with beachgoers in the street with chairs and wagons etc this is a potential hazard waiting to occur.
I have contacted Mr. Harris the Superintendent of Highways, and he has informed me that he is
unable to post No Parking signs unless a town meeting votes on this and approves the signs. I implore
you to present this issue on the June 19th meeting because anytime after this, with the summer season
well upon us, it may be too late to prevent an accident or unnecessary stress on our preserved wetlands.
Please be advised that the cars that park here are not residents of this area and the parking in
the midst of the summer goes all along the wetlands, all the way up past the curve.
Thanking you in advance for your prompt attention to this matter.
