BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS
OF THE
FISHERS ISLAND FERRY DISTRICT
June 23. 1960
A speoial meeting of the Board of Commissioners was called by the Chairman and
held in the office of the Fishers Island Farma June 23. 1960 at 5:00 P.M.
Present were H. Lee Ferguson, Jr., A. R. Grebe, L. S. Baldwin. L. O. Lamb and
W. C. Sinclair. Secretary. The Minutes of the Meeting held June 2, 1960 were
read and approved as read. The Manager was directed to write to the Corps of
Engineers regarding the proposed storm protection in New London and request
that consideration be given to that area up the river from Shaw's Cove by
our New London facility. The Manager read the following quotations for work
to be performed at theatre building #62 and at the Freight warehouse at Fishers
Island:
Furbish and install window between office of agent and Manager at the F. I.

Motion by Grebe and Lamb that this work be awarded to the lowest bidder. Motion
unanimously carried4 The Manager is to contact Mr. Cabral on this. Chairman
Ferguson reported that the water hydrant will be installed at the airport
tomorrow. He also reported that the radar on the Mystio ~sle was inoperative
last Saturday during a heav~ fog. The vessel was guided to port by the Coast
Guard on their radar. The 1anager was directed to send them a letter of
appreoiation for this. The radar was later repair~d by a teohnioian from
Boston under our maintenanoe oontraot. The Manager wall directed to inform the
porter in New London to wear his jaoket on meeting all ferry arrivals in New
London. Chairman ~erguson pOinted out that the I!anag~r had met with the three
employees at the airport last Friday and had instruoted them as to their duties.
He had pointed out that all three were employees on an equal basis and would
remain so until suoh time as the Board saw fit to plaoe one of them in oharge of
the airport. Chairman Ferguson stated he understood that W. Haines was going to
be in oharge. Comma Grebe asked what the status of W. Haines is regarding Civil
Service if he is to be ~anager. The nanager stated that all three employees are
classified as watchmen. General discussion then ensued. Comm. Baldwin stated
that he doesn't think you need an airport manager to merely oollect fees etc.
The ~ajority of the Board was of the opinion that the services of a manager was
not neoessary. The Manager reported that he had received a complaint about W.
Haines plane being parked free and all others being charged for same. The Board
agreed that W. Haines would have to pay the seasonal rate of $50.00 if he wish-
ed to keep his plane at the airport. It was agreed that he could continue to park
his plane in the hangar. Regarding the newly installed door at the theatre.
Comm. Grebe stated that the door frames should be caulked on the outside. The
Manager was directed to take care of this. The Manager reported that the lights
for the airport have not arrived yet. General discussion ensued on repairing
