" MINUTES OF THE MEETING OF THE BOARD OF COM1~ISSIONERS OF THE FISERS ISLAND FERRY DISTRICT Dec. 2, 1959 A special meeting of the Board of Commissioners was called by the Chairman and held in the office of the Ferry District Dec. 2, 1959 at 7:30 P.M. Present were H. Lee Ferguson, Jr, Alfred R. Grebe, Polly Edmonds, Lewis O. Lamb, Lawrence S. Bald*in and W. C. Sinclair, Secretary. The Minutes of the Meeting held Nov. 3, 1959 were read and approved as read. A question was raised by Comm. Grebe regarding the length of the seawall at the .,airport. The !'lanager stated that the quotation was for 190 feet. Chairman ~erguson stated on inspection it was found that the wall had to be extended another ~O feet o~ more. He stated that now the runways should be cleared and that the anager be directed to inspect the airport after every storm and be authori~ed to have same cleared if necessary. Motion by Grebe and Lamb that vouchers #8093 throught #8122 inclusive in amount of $11,325.71 representing the outstanding obligations of the ferry district far the month of November 1959 be paid. Motion unanimously carried. Chairman Ferguson reserved d6cision on the F. I. Telephone Corp. and F. I. Electric Corporations' bills. The Chairman then discussed the insurame coverages and the review recently conducted by Griswold & Company, insurance brokers for this District. He also stated that he had met with the directors of the Race foint Corporation regarding their views on zoning, the fort Wri~ht Area. Nothing concillusive has been established as yet he reported. The lanager read letter dated Nov. 19, 1959 from W. H. Malloy quoting $4000 to remove buildings #9, 21 and the former Service Club. General discussion qhen ensued. The Manager was directed to contact W. H. Malloy and talk to him and explain in view of the amount i~Q~ved it would be nec4ssary to advertise for bids on this work. Letter of November 25, 1959 from the A. C. Constr~ction Co. was read regarding the removal of the Service Club and Bldg. #383. The Board directed the !'lanager to explain to the A. C. Construction Co. that we are not interested in disposing of Bldg. T-383. Chairman Ferguson stated he had gotten a call from Mr. Rockefeller's Flight Operation Director stating he would like to come to Fishers ~sland and look at the airport with the idea of possibly extending a runway. The Chairman submitted a drawing for the rest rooms at the airport. Letter dated Nov. 30, 1959 from the A. C. Construction Co. was read quoting $500 fOD the removll of Bldg. #130 and the block building on south beach. The Board of Commissioners rejected this offer. Motion by Grebe and Lamb that the F. I. Fire Department be given permission to burn Bldg. #130 for instructional purposes'. Motion unanimously carried. Chairman Ferguson then discussed a move to West Harbor and stated that if we are to move then the matter should be expedited. Considerable discussion then ensued on the type of structure desired. Motion by Grebe and Lamb that the Ferry Uistrict will accept the West End Land Company's property proposal at West Harbor as a gift provided that payment is made for those expenditures which the West End Land Company made in removing the old pier structure. Motion unanimouBly carried. The Board authorized a noon trip of the Mystic ~sle, uecember 24,,1959 to leave New London at 11:15 A.M. and Fishers Island at 12:15 P.M. The Board authorized the Manager to have the holes filled in the parking area and also have the runways cleared at the airport. Motion made to adjourn and unanimously carried t 10:20 P.M.
