FISHEHS ISLAND FERRY DISTRICT
May 9, 1960
A special meeting of the Board of Commissioners was called by the Chairman and
held in the office of the Ferry District, May 9, 1960 at 7:30 p.M. Present
were H. Lee F'erguson, Jr., Alfred R. Grebe, L. S. Baldw'.n, L. O. Lamb, Polly
Edmonds and W. C. Sinclair, Mgr.-Sec. Chairman Ferguson opened the meeting
by having the !"lanager report on the paving at the airport. The Manager reported
that Mr. Price of the HigHway Department will be here tomorrow and he will
show him the area involved and get his recommendations and possible aid on the
matter. The manager was directed to contact Sonneco as well as to their
recommendations. Re8arding the airport the Manager was also directed to contact
the N. L. Flying Service and have them turn in a proposal rega.rding the oper-
ation no later then Wednesday noon. Proposals for operating the airport were
received from the following: Coastal Airways, Inc., William Haines, and
harry L. Guest. General discussion then ensued on the three proposals submitted.
Comm. Grebe made a statement that possibly if we lease the field out then
some of those people who might make further donations will refuse to do so.
Ch. Ferguson stated that the people involved are just interested in seeing that
the airport is operat'd efficiently. Corom. Edmonds feels that the airport
should be operated on a lease basis.. Cornrn. f'erguson stated that according
to the three propositions received it would indicate t~at operating the airport
ourselves would be more favorable financillJ,y. ,Corom. <.lrebe feels that a lease
arrangement would give us less headaches. The Mana~er reported that he had
received a qnotation of $1~50 for a l'iarco VG'rR-2A, 7t Watt radio for the air-
port which included a mike and crystals from the Waterford T.V. & Aadio. Also
a q:.otation on a weather band receiver for $10<}. Motion by Baldwin and
Edmonds that the Ferry District purchase this Narco Radi~ for $450 and also
the receIver for the weather band for$109 from the Waterford T.V. & Radio.
Motion unanimously carried. The Manager was directed to contact George
Wilcox of Stonington Road, Mystic, Conn. regarding a wind velocity and direction
guage. The Board worked out the following proposed fees for Elizabeth Airfield.
Landing Fees: Single engine aircraft @ 50~ passenger, Multi Engine aircraft
$1.00 passenger. Fees cover landing and taking off. Tie down fees for all
types of aircraft (1-21~ hours) $2.00, (24 hours and over) $1.00 per day.
~\6.00 week, $20.00 month and $50.00 season. Parking 1"ees: Minimum $1.00,
1-24 hours $1.50, over 24 hours, same as Tie Down Fees. Field Lighting Fees
to be added to Landing Fees, Dusk to Midnight, each landing $2.00, Midnight to
Dawn, each landing $4.00. Note Dusk is one half hour after published sunset;
Dawn is defined as one half hour before published sun rise. The Board agreed
that the next meeting will be Thursday, 7:30 p.M., May 12, 1960. The Manager
reported that an extra sept:l.c tank has been ordered for the airport. Chairman
Ferguson stated that the F. I. Farms will put in a hydrant at the airport. The
Manager then read the specifications for the fire escape at the Theatre.. The
Board changed this and directed the Manager to have this braced against the
building. The Manager was directed to contact the Building lnspector and work
out the details. The Manager was directed to nbtify the A.C. Construction Co.
that the Board is dissatisfied with the progress of the demolition of the
blimp hangar and that this job must be finished by May 20th. Motion made to
