May 2. 1960
A special meeting of the Board of Commissioners was called by the Chairman and
held in the office of the Ferry District, May 2. 1960 at 7:30 P.}!. Present
were H. L. Ferguson, Jr., Alfred R. Grobe, P~lly Edmonds, L. O. Lronb, L. S.
Baldwin and W. C. Sinolair, Mgr.-Sec. The Minutes of the Meeting held April
18, 1960 were read and approved as read. Motion by Edmonds and Grebe that
vouohers #8209 through 8233 inclusive in the amount of $10740.39 representing
the outstanding obligat ,_ons 01' t:1.e Ferry Dis trict for the month of April 1960
be yaid. Motion unanimously carried. Chairman Ferguson abstain~d from voti~
on the }'. I. 'relephone and F. .I.. Electric Corp bills. Chairman 1<erguson then
read bids received for repairs to the dock in Ne.v London and the dock at
Fishers Island. Said bids having been duly advertised and opened by the
Manager April 26, 1960 at 12:10 P.M.

Motion by Baldwin and Edmonds that the Whaling City Dredge & Uock Corp.
qotatton as follows Item I $2460 and Item II *12550 be accepted and that
tho work be awarqed to Whaling City Dredge & Uock Corp. Motion unanimously
carried. Cown. ~rebe stated that complaints have been received on the dirty
condition of the boat. Motion by Grebe and Baldwin that car reservations be
accepted for Monday May 30 an~ Tues. May 31. 1960 from Fishers Island only.
hotion unanimously carried. ':he Manager was authorized to add an extra trip
at 6:00 P.M if necessary. The summer schedule will be in effect June 10,
Friday through Mond-ay Oct. 17, 1960 inclusive. The Board agreed that the
summer schedule prevailing last year would be continued. Car reservations will
be accepted from Fishers Island only for July 4, July 5. and Monday Sept. 5
through Friday Sept. 9, 1960 inclusive. Honday, July 4th will be a Sunday
Schedule. Chairman .r'erguson stated that he had requested the A. C. Constr. Co.
to put a new facia board over the office door and also to replace rotten
roofers over the oi'fice roof. Hegarding the Septic tank the Hanager is to
check with the Health Vept. if we can put another tank in. The A. C. Constr.
Co. will submit plans to the Health Dept. on this. The doors on the rest
rooms will be changed to swing out and galvanized spring chains will be installed
A threshold of wlde aluminum of an lnterlocking type is to be installed. The
door on the west side will be secured. The .Banager is to get blocks to be
placed In front of the office door. Chairman .l"erguson read letter from the
N. L. Sand and Gravel Co. ~loting $7200 for a paved unloading strip at the air-
port. General dlscussion ensued en this.Motion by Baldwln and urebe to seek
blds on this and also just on half of the work. Motion unanimously carried.
The Board authorized the l-lanager to have A. J. Gada apply Televar weed killer
to the airport, a 6' strip on each side 01' the runway and also a circleraround the windsock.

Chairman Ferguson read letter dated April 27, from H. L. Guest regarding
possible employment at the airport this summer. Corom. Edmonds feels we
should put out a bid for the operation of the airport. Corom. Baldwin feels
we should have a public hearing on the matter. He thinks that Coastal
Airways, N. L. Flying Service, should be approached as to what they could
offer this District, to operate the airfield. The Board directed the Manager
to contact ~lock Island for their rates. Comm. Lamb feels we should hire some
one for the airport this year. Ch, Ferguson feels that if the Board wants
employees then we should hire two people and outline their duties. General
discussion then ensued. Chairman Ferguson feels that we shouldn't
enc~urag6 use of South Beach through the airport. Motion by Brebe and
and Baldwin that the Manager contact Wm. Haines, H. Guest, Coastal Airlines
and New London Flying Service and see what they will offer to operate the
airport. Motion unanimously carried. The Board decided that the next
meeting will be Monday, May 9, 1960 at 7:30 P.M. The Board directed the Manager
to see that all trunks of automobiles of anybody in business on the island
be opened for inspection while on board the Mystic Lsle. The Doard
approved the action of the MaLager in dropping che insurance on Bldgs. #217
and #130. Building #130 has been removed. Motion by Lamb and Grebe
that the Manager purchase emergency lights for the theatre as prescribed
by the building inspector. Motion unanimously carried. Motion
made to adjourn and unanin~usly carried at 10:4~~~M.
