Attending: Valerie Scopaz, Steve Latson, Peter Kren, Don
Stanton, Frank Bear. George Wetmore sat in as
observer for Dick Wilton.
Valerie opened the meeting by reporting that the developers
of a new subdivision north of Wolf Pit Lake has agreed to a
conservation easement and a refiltration system to protect
the Inlet and the Lake area.
It was suggested that we include in our report a recommendation
that provision be made for resort motels and a possible
convention center in the Town as a boost to the tourist based
e_con~my .
Discussion followed as to whether tourism or second home owners
are the largest part of the economy, andquestion was posed
as to which is more desirable.
Next Meeting will be on 5/3/88.
Individual Sub-area comments are on attached pages. It was
agreed we will consult the Town Historian concerning
historic resources in the sub-areas.

4. Flooding & Erosion
Steve suggested we recommend the use of natural
plantings on bluffs for stabilizing the bluff
and beach and avoid hard structures (Bulkheading)
Don and Peter disagree-don't feel you can .tell an
owner he can't try to protect the base of the bluff
suggested guidelines be established for clearing and
trimming top and face of bluff as many owners really
don't know what they are doing and don't seek
professional guidance
Valerie will get us a copy of the proposed ordinance
suggested that we limit use of ATV's and 4 Wheel
Drive vehicles on the beaches-limit access to
specific areas to minimze damage to dunes

6. Farmland Preservation
it was generally agreed that in this area, farmland
preservation is not a major concern: the Town and

7 < Water Quality
generally agreed that there is no quantity problem
in this area; there are quality problems from
pesticide intrusion and nitrate level's
public water is now in the Captain Kidd area
Surface water runoff is a major problem affecting
the Inlet. Agreed to use maps and aerial photos as
tools to pinpoint problem areas and to use Conservation
Advisory Committee resources available to us.
Suggested that we mandate the use of leaf rather
than systemic pesticides in all sensitive areas.
question was again posed as to where CR48 runoff
is directed-does it go into Inlet?
again suggested that we tighten requirements for
biofiltration and self-contained drainage facilities
on all new projects
question was posed as to monitoring of road runoff
is there any data as to problem sites, or measured
effect of the runoff?
in sensitive areas, it was suggested we mandate
the planting of reed beds to reduce effects
of runoff
Valerie will try to obtain data from DEC and other
agencies on runoff
