Pursuant to Section 267 of the Town Law and the provisions
of the Amended Building Zone ordinance of the Town of Southold,
Suffolk County, New York, public hearing willb~ held by the
i Zoning Board of Appeals of the Town of Southold, at the Town
Office, Main Road, Southold, New York, on September 26, 1963,
ii on the following appeals..
7:30 P.M. (E.D.S.T.),
and Pacific Tea Co., 650 Stewart Avenue, Garden City, New York,
for a special exception in accordance with the Zoning ordinance,
Article IV, Section 408, Subsection (a) , for permission to
maintain two parking field signs at the site of the A & P Store,
corner of New Suffolk Avenue and Main Road, Mattituck, New York,
property bounded north by New Suffolk Avenue, east by E. & H.
Reeve, south by Boutcher Estate, and west by Main Road.
Any person desiring to be heard on the above applications
should appear at the time and place above specified.

Dear Mr. Andersen~
In response to your Appeal No. 603 dated September 6,
1963 in wh/=h you state that you wish to install two standard
parking field signs as close to the property line as possible
at the entrances to the A & P parking field in Mattituck, New
York, we are scheduling your hearing for 7~30 P.M., Thursday,
September 26, 196]. As a matter of information, the Board is
unwilling to consider two additional advertising signs such as
you have already erected on the property. The two signs Just
referred to are without directional information and are presently
in violation of the pro~isions in the Ordinance which control the
number of standard advertising signs permitted to a business
enterprise, as well as being too close to the property lines.
We are sure that you will want to comply with the local zoning
Ordinance and the Board of Appeals is favorable to the erection
of small 1 ft. by 2 ft. direction, only, parking field signs
ind~ting "Entrance" and "Exit".
We might also state that your request for a reduction for
the setback on the lollipop sign is improperly included in
Appeal No. 603 noted above and would not be granted in any case.

In this connection we are unwilling to grant to your
business a privilege which is denied to all others.
Accordingly favorable action on directional parking field
signs will not be granted unless compliance is obtained
in the matter of the relocating the lollipop sign at least
5 feet from any property lines. The location of the signs
closer than 5 feet to the public highway constitutes serious
violation of both State rules and the Town of Southold Zoning
Ordinance. In addition it s~ould be pointed out that such
signs are a serious traffic hazard.
