To: Scott Russell, Supervisor Souif,,,U T( ,..1 tledl Members of the Town Board From: Jerilyn Woodhouse, Chairperso~ Re: Proposed Recreational Uses in the Light Industrial (L1) Zoning District Date: August 3, 2006 In December of 2003, a survey of LI properties was conducted to respond to assertions from the business community that there was an insufficient supply of LI zoned property to meet the demand. The report resulted in the rezoning of several L10 zoned parcels to L1. Several weeks ago the Planning Board was presented with a concept plan from an applicant proposing a destination indoor recreation facility in the LI zoning district north of County Road ~8 and west of Cox's Lane. The Planning Board has discussed the proposal at length and makes the following observations concerning the use. As determined in the above referenced report, the number and area of LI zoned parcels for permitted commercial uses is currently inadequate to meet the supply. The Planning Board feels that an indoor recreational facility is not a compatible use within the area around the Town landfill. Therefore, the Planning Board does not support the use for this location within the LI zoning district. However, the Planning Board strongly supports recreational uses and encourages that the Planning and Zoning Committee consider proposing to add the following recreational uses in the HB (Hamlet Business), B (Business) and Limited Business (LB) zoning districts. 1. Commercial sports and recreation facilities. 2. Health club and gymnasium.
