BP energyLux™ modules match performance and aesthetics
with the top quality you can expect from BP Solar
BP Solar has been a leader in solar module manufacturing for over 30 years. Our modules are
designed and constructed for the best performance in the real world, not just the laboratory.
The field reliability of BP Solar modules IS demonstrated by our record of having less than one
module failure per every 4200 module years BP Solar's superior quality is due to our precision
engineering, our accelerated testing program, and such design features as:
World class cells .
Black BP energyLux™ modules are made with
monocrystalline solar cells. Each cell is cut from a
single slowly grown crystal, a more expensive
process which yields the most efficient solar cells.
The cells are black in color because they absorb
the full spectrum of visible light to maximize
energy conversion.
PC(vVEH' to~c+rance
measurement TO!' 0: superior power
and value
BP Solar modules have tight power tolerances,
which means that a BP Solar system will usually
produce more power than an equally rated competi-
tor system with wider tolerances. Like Christmas
tree lights where one bad light can ruin a whole
string, one module with less power will lower the
power production of all modules connected in
series. So in comparing modules, it is important to
look at minimum power as well as nameplate rating.
Unlike many other solar manufacturers' practices,
our module power measurements are calibrated
to World Radiometric References through the
European Solar Test Installation at Ispra, Italy. ThiS
third party measurement provides proof that com-
pany claimed module ratings represent true power.
o Proven encapsui,ation system
Our modules use the same tempered glass for impact
resistance as requrred for windows in the automobile
industry. They have low iron content and non-yellow-
Ing EVA encapsulant so that they will not only look
good for years to come but are also more effective at
transmitting light and withstanding the rigors of long
term outdoor exposure.
~ntegraBtls -iHi techncJiogv 0 1'Ot'
long-term power
When partial shading of a module occurs, the shaded
cells act as a load, creating heat buildup which can
actually damage the module. Preventing the heat
buildup is the critical function of bypass diodes.
They act as valves passing the current around the
shaded portion.
.4
Located at the top of the module, the IntegraBus™
is a printed circuit board that combines bypass diode
integration, electricity collection and heat sink
functionality into one smart design element. The
IntegraBus technology decreases the diode heat rise
by over 300% compared to some of our competitors.
Since the threat of fault rises exponentially with higher
temperatures, keeping the temperature low extends
the life of the diodes, improves the short and long-
term reliability of the module, and improves power
efficiency over the life of the module.
~
BP Solar modules are among the few products in
the market that consistently pass the Institute of
Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) bypass
diode thermal test. In the end, this assures the
module owner of getting the power they purchased
for years to come.

Through decades of experience BP Solar knows what
it takes to build a module that will last. Some compa-
nies pack their cells more tightly and run their bus bars,
(electricity collectors), under the cells to Increase module
efficiency, but this apparent gain is more than offset by
the increased risk of failure due to the short-circuiting
of elements within the module. We place the bus bar
outside the cell area and provide extra cell clearance to
ensure premium module reliability.
Our attention to detail extends to how we connect indi-
vidual cells within the module. We use multiple solder
Joint construction to provide extra assurance against
module failure as a result of mechanical actions such
as vibration and/or rapid changes in temperature. This
is like having a spare tire in your car. You may never
need to use it, but you'll be happy it's there if you do.
.' strongest h"i odie ~rlrdustrv
Our frames are made of corrosion resistant alloys to
maintain their strength even in harsh environments.
BP Solar is one of the few companies whose modules
are certified to International Electrotechnical
Commission, (IEC) loads for wind and snow of
113 pounds per square foot. To save on costs, many
other companies merely pass the 50 pounds per
square foot minimum.

Components and Configurations
Thanks for using SolarMoun~! Use this chart to find sizing and pricing infor-
mation for the seven basic array configurations. See the back cover for infor.
mation on our new SolarMounVS-S! clamps for standing seam metal roofs:
RAu.s-All configurations use standard SolarMountrail.
. Kits include L-feet and, if required, splice bars.
. Pro-Pales ship eight rails to a bundle with no other hardware.
MODULE ATrACHMENT-Choose from top mounting clamps, bottom mount-
ing clips, and junction plates. All are described on the facing page.
FOOTING CHOICES-Choose from several methods of attaching rails to a roof
Of other surface:
L-feet figure in all installations except those using raised-flange
standoffs.
Standoffs and flashings facilitate a waterproof seal where one cannot
be obtained with L~feet alone.
Hanger bolts support arrays above corrugated metal roofs.
ARRAY Tll.T- Mount an array flush to a roof or tilt it at any site location. If
tilted, select from low profile tilt legs, high profile tilt legs, or our two-tier
shared rail configuration. All are described in this two-page spread.
AcCESSORIES-Optimize your installation.
Rail splices align and secure long rows of modules.
Shims align both footings and rails on uneven surfaces.
Security hardware minimizes the risk of module theft.
Cable ties secure module cables to the rails above the mounting
surface.

Standard SolarMount" rail
Install an array flush to a roof or other mounting surface. Modules
can be mounted high profile (long sides horizontal, rails parallel to
rafters), low profile (shorr ends and rails perpendicular to rafters),
or a combination of both. Optional accessories handle special cir-
cumstances, such as Spanish tile or an uneven roof.
Low profile orientation minimizes the vertical height of your ar-
ray-:-to hide an array behind a parapet, for example. You can also
optimize tilt angle on a pitched roof to maximize system perfor-
mance. Tilt angle depends on leg length and the make and model of
your PV modules.
High profile orientation maximizes module density in a given site
area on the ground or on a flat orpitched roof. Tilt angle depends on
leg length and rail length.
High profile legs are notrerommendedfor rails longer thanlBO inches,
and are-never used with spliced rails.

Top Mounting Clamps
Select top mounting clamps if you prefer
to install modules after securing the
footings and the rails. This sequence is
especially well suited for flush mounting.
Top mounting clamps do not use the
modules' mounting holes, thus allowing
flexibility in rail placement. See the in.
stallation manual for details. Top mount.
iog requires 1 inch between modules.
Rails must extend llh inches beyond the
last module on each end.

Bottom Mounting Clips
,~,.
Select bottom mounting clips if you plan
to attach modules to rails prior to final
installation, a sequence well suited for
pre.wired rows of modules, No space be-
tween modules is required, and rails need
not extend past the end modules.
However, flush arrays are significandy
more difficult to install when using bot~
tom mounting clips because of access
problems when securing footings under
pre~assembled module rows. Learn more
from "Frequently Asked Questions" in the
SolarMount pages at www.unirac.cam.

Two-Tier Shared Rail
In this configuration, each interior
rail supports modules on both sides.
Mount two to ten modules in portrait
mode. The two-tier system is a Solar-
Mount upgrade of our former V-DO
configuration.
Junction Plates
~
Modules attach to rails with a four~
slot plate. Norrh.south slots secure
the plates to the rails. East-west slots
secure a module to the plate on each
side of the rail.
