JUN lJ \985
To:
Bennett Orlowski, Jr., Chairman
Southold Town Planning Board
Report No. 454
From: John W, Davis
Date: June 10, 1985
Re: Access Road between two adjacent Minor Subdivisions on Soundview Avenue,
One in name of G. L. Penny IV, the other in name of Robert Johnson as
a proposed minor subdivision
Comments:
I made an inspection today on the above access road as completed. Mr. Penny
and Mr. Johnson were also at the site.
Plan length of the 30 ft. R.O.W. as shown is 768 L.F. Wheel measured length
(slope length) of the road is 661 ft. which extends same into Lot 3 of the
Penny subdivision by 35! ft.
The road width is 20 ft. for most part as recommended. A few widths were
19 ft.:!:.
The alignment has some minor deviations from the straight tangent as shown on
the plans due to saving large trees. The Van Tuyl profile (which I had never
seen) does not conform to the as constructed profile which appears to follow
more or less the original ground contours. Provided I had the information
shown on the plans and profile and was notified when the work was to be done,
the above variations could have been taken care of.
The recommended road material was a 6" depth of coarse bankrun with a 2" depth
of 3/4" stone blend top course. The constructed road does not have a full
6" depth of coarse hankrun from outside sources. However, the stone blend from
test holes shows depths of from 4" to 5" in the center with lesser depths on
some of the edges. The additional depth of stone blend should compensate for
the gravel depths.
No catch basins with leaching rings were installed at the intersection with
Soundview Avenue. I would waive this recommendation.
The here-to-fore variations from the plans are not detrimental. The road is
usable and stable and with some reservation I recommend acceptance.
No turnaround was called for on the plans. Emergency vehicles will have to
turn in driveways or in available areas within the lots.
