MINUTES OF THE MEETING
OF THE
BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS
OF THE
FISHERS ISLAND FERRY DISTRICT

S special meeting of the Board of Commissioners was called by the Chairman
and held in the office of the Fishers Island Ferry District, July 9, 1913
at 7:" P.M.. Present were Commissioners Doyen, Baldwin, Edmonds, Morell,
Foyle and w. ~. Sanclair, Mgr.-Sec. The Minutes of the Meetings held May
7, Kay 31 and June 7, 1973 were read and approved as read. The Manager read
a wuotation received from DeNoia Bros. of New London, Conn. for furnishing
and installing carpeting in the freight agents office. Prices were as follows:
A. _ $285, B- $245, C. _ $2". Mqtion by Comm. Morell and seconded by Comm.
Foyle that the Ferry District accept the figure of $285 and that DeNoia Bros.
be authorized to install same for this price. Motion unanimously carried.
Comm. Foyle spoke on the collection of tickets on the gang way of the Mystic
Isle. The Manager suggested that the freight agent and bimself su~ervise and
collect these tickets. The Manager also suggested a pessenger ramp from the
upper deck which would control this situation. Comm. Baldwin suggested .aakLng
the tickets when sold. Motion by Comm. Foyle and seconded by Comm. Morell that
the Manager be authorized to purchase a security shredder to be used to destroy
all used tickets for $254.15. Motion unanimously carried. ~ card of thanks
was read from Mrs. Ruth Pickett relative to her late husban, John Pickett.
General discussion ensued on the problem of heavy freight shipments on Fridays
when this is our busiest day. The Manager was directed to write all the
Contractors and store owners relative to not accepting for shipment on Fridays
large quantities of contractors building material and or large volume of store
shipments Items of an emergency nature would be given consideration in addition
to those items which would give immediate convenience to a customer. All
,arates concerned will be requested to schedule their shipments early in the
week. Corom. Foyle also spoke of overcrowding in our parkin~ lot by auto.obiles.
The Board of Commissioners authorized the Manager to arrange for the services
of a mechanic to check the Kohler generators on the M/V OLINDA. The following
resolution was introduced by the Chairman and adopted by the unanimous
affirmative vote of the Board of Commissioners as follows:
Commissioner Doyen - Yes
Commissioner Baldwin Yes
Commissioner Ed.onds Yes
Commissioner Morell Yes
Commissioner Foyle Yes
WHEREAS it is in the interest of the F.I. Ferry District to engage the
services of a parking attendant for our New London Terminal
, AND WHEREAS David P. James of 7 Tormberg Lane, Groton Conn. has applied for
! this position and is qualified for this work
THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that David P. James be engaged to fill this position
l with subject appointment to be effective July 2, 1973 and to be compensated
at the rate of $9.... per week.
Chairman Doyen spoke of our 1974 Budget and stated he felt we should include
all engine in every budget for emergency purposes. Comm. Baldwin suggest'!"

the installation of a steering engine on the Mystic Isle be included in the
budget. Chairman Doyen also said he had spoken with the DUBay Paving Co.
relative to getting a quotation for filling and ,aving a sunken area in our
New London Terminal. Comm. Foyle spoke on a problem he had in getting a
U-Haul trailer transported to New London. Motion made by Comm. Baldwin
and seconded by Comm. Morell that Vouchers #155 through #189 inclusive in
the amo'~t of $24,7'4.55 representing the outstanding obligations of the j
Ferry District for June 1973 be paid. Motion unanim)usly carried. Motion
