MINUTES OP THE MEETING
OF THE
BOARD OF CO~lISSIONERS
OF THE
FISHERS ISLAND FERRY DISTRICT
Sept. 18, 1973
A special meeting of the Board of Commissioners of the Fishers Island Ferry
District was called by the Chairman and held in the office of the Ferry District
Sept. 13, 1973 at 7:~O P.M.. Present were Commissioners Doyen, Edmonds, Baldwin,
Morell, and W. C. SinClair, I1gr. Commissioner Foyle was absent. The Manager re-
ported to the Board that the administrative charge for Automobile reservations
has produced a profit to the District in that receipts are in excess to the re-
servationist wages. Chairman Doyen spoke on insurance matters mentioning that Mr.
Fisher has offered to act as our insurance advisor. Commissioner Doyen said that
Mr. Fisher will do this work for $500.00 per year. Motion by Commissioner Morell
and seconded by Commissioner Baldwin that Mr. B. Fisher be appointed as our in-
surance adviror and shall receive $583.00 per year for his services. Motion un-
animously carried. By direction of the Board of Commissioners the Manager pro-
duced a survey he had made relative to increasing rates and which would produce
$32,278.78 in increased revenues. General discussion ensued on some freight
charges which are too low for the value of the property transported. Commissioner
Edmonds felt it is good business to keep same rate. General discussion ensued on
freight handling. General discussion then ensued on all rates. Commissioner Baldwip
felt we should charge $1.0C more per ticket for every extra trip. The Manager said
that it has been four years since we changed our tariffs and in that time costs
have skyrocketed. He also pointed out our reserves are falling off due to workers
riding on other boats.
The following resolution was introduced by Commissioner Morell and adopted by
the unanimous affirmative vote of Commissioners as follows:
Commissioner Doyen - yes
Commissioner Edmonds - yes
Commissioner Morell - yes
Commissioner Baldwin - yes
Commissioner Foyle - absent
WHEREAS it is in the best interest of the Ferry District that due to the com-
plexity of the District's Property and Liability exposures that an insurance
advi..r be engaged by this District.
AND WHEREAS Mr. Bertram Fisher is eminently qualified to serve in this capacity
THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that Mr. Bertram Fisher be engaged in this capacity
AND BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that Mr. Bertram Fisher be compensated at the annual
rate of $5ee.eO per year.
