HomeMy WebLinkAbout12/31/1966 .. . . ~ MINUTES OF THE HEARING OF THE FISHERS ISLAND FERRY DISTRICT ON THE ESTIMATED REVENUES AND ESTIMATED EXPEliDITURES FOR THE PERIOD JANUARY I, 1966 THROUGH DECEMBER 31, 1966 INCLUSIVE The meeting was called to order by Cha11'111an Baldwin at 8: 00 P.M., August 19, 1965 at the Fishers Island Fel:'l:'Y District Theatre. Chai1'l1lan Baldwin introduced the new member to the Board of COllllllissioners, Mr. Ra;ymond Doyen. The Manager then read the Notice of the Hearing. Present at the Hearing were COlIIIlI1ssiohers Baldwin, Grebe, Edmonds, Foyle, Doyen and W. C. Sinclair, Manager and Miss Helen Best, Acting ~ecretsry. Present in the audience were Mr. & Mrs. Ralph Rooks Mr. Wal'Der, Mr. & Mrs. Edwin HOl'Ding, Mrs. H. Lee Ferguson, Jr.. The t~nager read the proposed budget item by item and the following questions were asked and answered: Mrs. Rooks - What is renovation of docks. - Answer enlargement of dock faci11t1es in New London and relocating ramp thereon. Mrs. Rooks - Any money allowed fOX' the racks at our Fishers Island dock? answer - yes, dolphins will be installed this fall, also fendsr piles will be replaced on the p1er. Mr. Warner Is it possible to increase revenue from the Mail Contract? answer ~No, due to zip code, the mail would probably be flown ovel'. we do not feel it the proper time to ask for an increase. Mr. Warner Does the airfield show a profit? Answer - On annual basis - no, on seasonal basis - yes. Mr. Warner. Is extra charge made for night landings? Answer - the landing 1'ate has .been increased to off set the cost of the lights. Mrs. Ferguson Is Groton Airline paying?, Answer - Yes on cash basis. Mrs. .l"erguso~ What are 1m al. transfers?' - Answer - hauling mail to and from dOCK to post office. Mr. Warner Doesn't insurance cover personal injuries? Answer - Yes but not the deductible parts of the policies. Mrs. Rooks What are other expenses? Answer - Audits and feea paid for Tnsured losses. Mr. Warner Does this budget cover the cost of a new boat. Answer - NO. New boat acquisition will be done by bonding. Mr.. Warner How do figures compare to 1964 and 1965? Answer ~ budget figUres are averqged out oYer a three year basis. ~WS. Fergueon \'hat is other insurance? Answer - Compensation. Fire, Theft, 'DOnaS, Gomprehensi ve liability, etc. Mrs. Ferguonson Have you tried for cheaper insurance?, Answer - No. not necessary as all rates are competitive. MY's. Rooks Is credit given for trips not run? Answer. No ~ weather is Aot 0'1" uad. Mr'. i'/arner Were any other hids received for operathlg the boat? Answel'- Yes. but the party withdrew his bid. MY's. Rooks Wasn't Bicknell supposed to pay for fuel originally? Answer - yes but 1s more economical for District to buy through biddIng. Warner Who does Bicknell pay? Answer - Crew and agents ~s. FerFuson What 1s $2500 to repair runways? Anawer- to repair cracks etc. before frost and water gets in and heaves it up. I-ls.rner What Conn. Property do you own? Answel' - Where the boat M,as up in New London. Warnar Is there provisions in this budget for dolphins? Yea, notice is '6eing worked on now. ~~ner Does this budget include both capital and operating expenses. C. formula. Warner How much tax money received in 1965? Answer $38,862000 Warner What is percentage of taxes for Ferry ~istrict7 Answer Look at your tax bill. Warner Can any of this material be presented at a Uivic Meeting? Yes It' tIme is available. Warner If budget is passed, send 20 copies to Civic Association. Answer All information is available at the Fevry Office.- Free to Public. AS there were no further questions, the hearing was closed. Helen Best, Acting Secretary Comm. Baldwtn reconvened the meeting with the other members of the Bo?rd of Commissioners. a motion was made by ~omm. Edmonds and seconded by Comm. Foyle to accept the budget as prepared.
