Minutes of the Board of Commissioners of the Mattituck Park District held on
April 18, 2006, in the office of the Veterans Park building on Peconic Bay Boulevard,
Mattituck, New York 11952, with all Commissioners present: Chairman Tom
McCaffery, Jerome Zuhoski, and Gerard Goehringer, together with John Cushman,
Treasurer, Madeline S. Haas, Secretary, Gail Faircloth, Clerk, Edward Grohoski,
Maintenance, Mr. Williamson, volunteer worker, and Abigail Wickham, Attorney for the
Board. Also present was Mr. Seigmam, a resident tax payer and senior citizen, Mr.
Sheren, a representative of the Roy Reeve Agency, Board's insurance carrier, Kim
Prokop, Mr. Polistina, a volley ball team representative and Mr. Gato, a soccer coach.
At 7:03 p.m., Tom McCaffery, Chairman, called the meeting to order.
On motion of Jerome Zuhoski, seconded by Tom McCaffery and carried, the
minutes of the March 9, 2006 meeting were approved as presented.
Mr. Seigman questioned the permit papers for the use of seniors to use the bacchi
courts. He questioned the part about his getting the senior group who play bacchi to get
liability insurance to use the facility. He stated that the all pay taxes and have used the
bacchi courts every year and have never been asked for the insurance. The
commissioners and Mr. Sheren explained to him the reason for the insurance. The Park
District has liability insurance but when other groups request the use of the grounds and
facilities of the Park, those people are responsible for anything that happens to the group
in whatever they are doing and someone gets hurt through no fault of the Park. He
argued the point for some time and Mr. Sheren talked to the Commissioners openly that
where this is a small group that is requesting use, perhaps they can be exempt where they
have used the courts for years. The Board of Commissioners made an exception for these
6 - 8 senior citizen people to use the bacchi courts without them getting insurance.
Mr. Polistina had question about the use of the volley ball court at the Breakwater
site. The Commissioners told him the two groups of volley ball had to work together and
iron out their differences and gave him permission to remove the grass that has grown
onto the courts.
Kim Prokob turned in her report on the Easter Egg Hunt which she said was a
huge success with everyone having a good time.
Mr. Gato came in to drop off an up-<lated schedule of the soccer games at Aldrich
Lane site.
Mr. Sheren was informed by Gerry Goehringer that the big room for renting out
to organizations has no kitchen facilities.
Mr. Williamson reported the bathrooms are tiled but the toilets won't flush. He is
getting a booster flush tank to raise the water pressure.
