REPORT OF HARBORMASTER
1990
WEST HARBOR
Water quality tests were made by the New York State
DEC on four occasions. Quality was good to excellent in all
areas except Pirates Cove.
We added five new mooring permits for Island residents.
All are day sailing boats including IOD's and bullseyes. One
new mooring permit was assigned to a Connecticut resident,
replacing one that had been discontinued.
Fourteen channel markers and speed/anchoring warning
buoys were refurbished and placed this summer. They will
generally be removed during October.
The Town Board approved the installation of a piling to
mark a large boulder close to the channel, opposite the Mobil
Station.
Renting of moorings is no longer permitted. However, the
Yacht Club has several guest moorings available for use by
Island residents on an advanced reservation basis. Residents
requiring temporary guest moorings should contact the Commodore
of the Yacht Club, or Larry Rubinow or Bill Martling.

Appropriate signs will be placed at the entrance of the
Speed and wake limits violations were generally down >
this year. However, the majority of warnings given by the
two Bay Constables, were to Island resipents. Please cooperate.
The Bay Constables have been directed to strictly enforce
boat regulation laws in 1991. All boats powered by an engine
require a state registration or Federal documentation.

HAY HARBOR
The Town Board early this year, has added Hay Harbor to
the responsibility of the Harbormaster.
This action was taken to provide local control over the
use of the harbor.
Regulations are being finalized after consultation with
the Hay Harbor Club. They will generally follow the rules
set by the Club and neighboring residents.
Water skiing will continue to be permitted after 5 p.m.
and on weekends unless discontinued by the Bay Constables.
There will be NO anchoring or non resident moorings
permitted in Hay Harbor in the forseeable future.
