Fishers Island Community Center
Meeting Minutes for 1113/04, 5:30pm
Fishers Island Village Office
Next meeting: Nov. 23, at 5:30pm in the Village Office.
1. Welcome
2. Legal work 501c3:
a. Henry Keen (firm) will be able to help out on occasion, but pro-bono is
not an option because that work is slated for minority groups.
b. HK can't make statement on the Pool/school issues. We will have to do so
more research on that.
c. John Thatcher has a lawyer that we may be able to contact to get help
from, we will ask him about that.
d. John Kebbie (sp) was suggested as someone who could help maybe. We
need to try and contact him as well.
e. Michael Roberts was suggested also, he will charge us for sure, but not
over priced. We need to look into that and get a number if we can.
3. Property discussions:
a. We need to consider all the possible options for re-useable buildings.
b. Building 98 is considered and needs to be looked at.
c. The Cleavland buildings need to be researched again now that Mrs.
Cleavland has gotten older and her son may be in charge of them. Sara
will research that a bit for us.
d. The idea of a Community Center near the school, connecting the area and
creating a 'campus' feel over there as well as cleaning up the area that is
first seen when exiting the ferry is appealing to all.
e. The re-use of an existing building might be an easier pill for the public to
swallow and make fund raising a little easier too. Some site plans would
help to start thinking about all this, Mere will try and help with that.
f. Karla asks if this means we look at the theater again and the general
thought is no, that place has too many negatives (zoning and
environmental) for us to deal with.
4. Meeting adjourned. Thank you for coming.
The next meeting wiD be held on November 18 at 5:30 in the Island Office
Minutes respectfully submitted by,
Meredith Harr, Note taker for FICC Board
