HomeMy WebLinkAbout05/23/2005 Fishers Island Community Center Board Meeting Minutes for 5/23/05, 6:30pm Fishers Island Office Next meeting: June 10 at 6:30pm in the Island Office. In attendance: Judi Imbroglio, Sara McLean, Gail Cyphard, Jeanne Schultz, Karla Heath, Sarah Moody, Charlie Stepanik, Mere Harr, John Spofford I. Grant Update ~Jeanne Shultz: We need to rework our numbers on the grant. She thinks the town will give us money for the exercise room specifically and use 2% money for the capital costs. Pat Finnangan, the town attorney wants to meet with some of us about FmCO owning the building. How long of a lease do we need to be legal with the town for this? From what we find out from Pat we can report back to Fmco and ask for. The town will approve the grant application on the 21 st if we have answered these questions. After they sign our final version, we can send it in to the state. 2. Brochure -All Switch the Maine trip and the survey page in order. The text on several pages was reworded to sound better. The colors of blue and green were decided on as the C.Co's colors. Mere will add the newest numbers for financials and clean up that page a bit as well as fix the plans by taking out the theater and pool as labeling the bowling office as the snack bar. The Contribution page will list the potential funding sources as NYS grant under LWRP, Town of South old participation through the parks and rec. money and open space money (2%), community fundraising events, support from mainland contributors, individual donors. 3. Community Kick-off event- All Sue Lusker has agreed to do the catering. Will this be free work? It should be a block party in front of 98, between school. Alcohol could not be allowed because of this. How much do we charge? Who would come? How do we advertise? 4. Governance and Management- John and all John said that from what he has learned, the number of members on a SOlc3 board needs to be divisible by 3, so 9 would be a good number for us. They will rotate off every three years this way. He has given, for the purposes of this application, the C.C. the name "06398 Community Center Ioc." The group likes this name. The potential board members list is Harris Parsons Jr. Scott Reid, Judi, Mark Borland, John, Sara, Sarah, Audry Ludemann, Gail. The management committee will be a separate group that oversees the center and its operations and meets much more regularly than the Board. The ideas for participants in that group are: Judi, Sara, Cahrlie, Karla, Sue Lusker, Dave Denison, Laurie Finan. Should we have a community clean-up event for the area around 98? What can be done?
