Box 1494 Mattituck, New York 11952 Dmar ~. Block: Thank you for your recent inquiry concerning the use of natural gas for your business, following up on a previous inquiry of March 2nd. As you know, there is a moratorium on new and additon~l gas use in Eastern Suffolk at this time. The growth of this region has outstripped the ability of the LILCO gas system to supply all applicants. LILCO is in the process of re-inforcing the entire gas distribution system on Long Island, including facilities in Nassau County, to meet this need. A transmission system bringing more gas to Riverhead has been recently certified to carry additional quantities. A compressor station at Riverhead has been expanded and modernized. We anticipate completion of the Iroquois gas pipeline, which will bring natural gas from Canada to Long Island, terminating at Commack. These various endeavors have been ongoing. We expected to lift or relax the moratorium sometime in 1991, but now it appears that the Iroquois pipeline will take a bit longer than predicted. Meanwhile, your application has been put on our waiting list to receive gas. While another business establishment might have stopped using gas in Ma~tituck, this does not necessarily make excess capacity available for you. It only serves to make the supply problem less severe, and if others use less gas, the collective result could theoretically open the opportunity foc expansion again. But for all practical purposes, the enhancements described herein are expected to do it first. We appreciate your interest in our service, and will continue ouc efforts to serve you and your neighbors with reliable gas and electricity. Truly yours, Stephen R.
