Town of Southold Department of Waste Disposal 53095 Main Road Southold, NY 11971 Attn: Jim Bunchuck, Solid Waste Coordinator January] 8,2006 Re: Town of South old - Transfer Station & Site Improvements Change Order No.1 for Additional Work Performed by Contractor LKMA No. 05067 Dear Mr. Bunchuck: Enclosed herewith is a draft of Proposed Change Order No. 1 for additional unforeseen work associated with one of the three proposed sanitary systems for the above referenced project. The Change Order will result in an increase in the total amount of the contract as follows: Original Contract Amount: Change Order No.1: Revised Contract Amount $ 2,929,972.58 $ 3,155.00 $ 2,933,127.58 As a condition for Suffolk Count Department of Health Services (SCDHS) to issue the sanitary permit for the transfer station building, the County required that two, not one, leaching pools be installed for sanitary waste based upon the total area of the building. As the toilets are located in the mechanics shop and are oniy for staff Llse, LKMA based our design as YOLl are aware, un the floor space of the mechanics shop and not that of the entire building, which resulted in our design for installing only one leaching pool. LKMA stressed to the County that the bathrooms were not for use by the general public, but strictly for employee use. We also argued that the the sanitary flows out of the bathrooms would be very low, as only several employees a day will be using these facilities. Nonetheless, the County insisted in requiring more storage capacity by mandating a second leaching pool for sanitary waste. In order to avoid disapproval of the other sanitary systems, our office revised the sanitary permit drawings as per the County's comments. In view of this, LKMA requested the general contractor, Robbins and Cowan, for an estimate to install the extra leaching pool and associated piping as directed by the SCDHS. Attached is a copy of Robbins and Cowan's January 9, 2006 for the extra work. LKMA is of the opinion that the monies requested by Robbins and Cowan for this extra work are reasonable and therefore recommend approval of this change order. The additional work will result in an added extended cost of $3,155.00 to the Contract. Change Order 1- R&C . Founded in 1950. Page I of4 "LI[.\\i\ L. K. McLean Associates, P. C.
