OF PUBLIC ¥~ORK~ TRAFFIC ENG~N~E~RiNG Speed Limit Request CR 48 at Westphalia Avenue CR 48 at Cox Neck Road Mattituck Our Case No. 979780 We have completed our investigation of the referenced locations, and based on the radar data collected, the current 45 mph speed limit was found to be appropriate. With the concurrence of Bill Shannon of your office, we expanded our speed study to the area between Cox Neck Road and Westphalia Avenue that is currently posted at 55 mph. We found that the posting of 55 mph speed limit for seven tenths of one mile was creating higher speeds within the 45 mph section near Cox Neck Road and Westphalia Avenue. Therefore, we feel it is appropriate at this time to lower the 55 mph speed limit to 45 mph between Cox Neck Road and Westphalia Avenue. Although we establish speed limits within the Town of Southold, the county is responsible for the installation and maintenance oftbe speed limit signs at this location. Attached for your referenced is a copy of thc ordinance concerning thc new regulation. Thank you for your interest in traffic safety. Very truly yours, THOMAS F. OELERICH, P.E. Richmond Town Clerk Southold, L.I., New York Dear Mr. Richmond= We have your letter of April 19 which requests a survey for traffic control signals at the following intersecticas: Route 27 at Westphalia Avenue-Remte 25 at Love Lane and New Suffolk Avenue. An investigation of conditions has been i~itiated to determine the feasibility of the traffic control signals at each of the Route 25 intersections. We will let you know of our findings when the necessary field informatiou can be obtained and evaluated. Our informatiou indicates that Route 27 is a Count2 Road and as such, this C,-~sicm has no Jurisdiction over it.
