Re: NYS DOT Speed Limit Orders
Date: June 30, 2005
Please find two (2) orders received from the NYS DOT establishing reduced speed limits
in the Town of Southold as follows:
(1) Great Hog Neck Area, Southold. Their order is attached. I noticed in the area
description that they stated"Harbor Road"which should be South Harbor Road
and I will so advise them.
2)Pacific Street, Gabriella Court, Tabor Road, and Rachel's Road,Mattituck. There
was no order attached to this one and I have so notified them to send it to me.
As soon as I receive it, I will forward it to you.
However, with the summer season upon us and in the best interest of time, I am sending
these to you now to record and to allow time to provide and post the signs. Please do not
hesitate to call me if you have any questions. Thank you.

Speed Limit Reduction Request
Great Hog Neck Area
Town of Southold
Our Case No. 029903TC
Dear Ms.Neville:
We have completed our investigation regarding your request to reduce the existing 35 mph speed
limit on all the roads within the Great Hog Neck area, as described in your September 20, 2004
letter.
Based on the results of our study, we feel that reducing the speed limit from 35 mph to 30 mph
on all the roads in the Great Hog Neck area is appropriate.
Although we establish speed limits within the Town of Southold, the Town is responsible for the
installation and maintenance of the speed limit signs along town highways. Attached are copies
of the ordinances concerning this new regulation.
Thank you for your interest in this traffic safety matter.
Very truly yours,

Our Case No. 049735TC
Dear Ms. Neville:
We have completed our investigation to determine if reducing the speed limit to 30 mph
on Pacific Street, Gabriella Court, Tabor Road and Rachel's Road would improve safety
and traffic operations. Our study analyzed the existing roadside development,
intersection development, and highway geometries of these roadways.
Based on the results of our study, we feel that reducing the speed limit to 30 mph on
Pacific Street, Gabriella Court, Tabor Road and Rachel's Road is appropriate.
Although we establish speed limits within the Town of Southold, the Town is responsible
for the installation and maintenance of the speed limit signs along Town highways.
